Cleaning makeup brushes: This is how often you should really clean them - and here's how to do it correctly!

Cleaning makeup brushes: How to do it right!

As much as we love makeup, cleaning our makeup brushes is just as much a part of our routine as this. After all, the many little helpers are perfect for applying foundation, powder and eye shadow and are therefore probably used almost every day. If you want your tools to last a long time, you should clean them regularly - this will also help yours in the long run.

Why should you clean makeup brushes regularly?

It's actually quite logical: We use our brushes every day and use them to apply color pigments to the skin. These pigments also permanently attach to the brush. Just like cream or sebum gets from the skin onto the tool. This has several consequences. First of all, the brush can no longer be used properly because the cosmetics make it sticky. Fine dust and dust also settle better in this sticky environment. In addition, bacteria also thrive in moisture. You then spread these nicely over your face every day - there they arepre-programmed!

The same applies to cleaning-Brushes or-Brushes.For bronzer,- or-Brushes, however, weekly cleaning is sufficient. Unless you change the color, then the following applies: clean thoroughly immediately before the new color!

What is the best way to clean makeup brushes?

If you want to clean your makeup brushes, you should know whether they are made of synthetic bristles or real hair.

Synthetic hair and bristleshave several advantages when it comes to care. Not only are they produced without cruelty to animals (perfect for vegans!), but the quality is now so good that they are in no way inferior to the make-up finish. They are usually made of nylon, Taklon, Tynex or Perlon, which are extremely dirt-repellent. It is therefore sufficient to wash the brushes regularly with water or use a gentle brush cleaner.

Real hair brushare significantly more sensitive as they mostly consist of the belly hair of meadows, polecats or goats. Any remaining powder can be gently tapped out and wiped dry using a cosmetic tissue. Stubborn residues of rouge etc. can be washed out with gentle baby shampoo (never real shampoo or soap!) or brush cleaner in combination with water. But be careful: Make sure that the water does not go beyond the metal junction of the brush, otherwise the wood can quickly become brittle and the glue can become loose.

Extra care tips:You can also embalm fine human hair with a little oil every month. For example, apply almond oil to your hair and remove it with a tissue.

What products can you use to clean brushes?

There are a variety of brush cleaning products that can be used depending on your needs and skin sensitivity. Cleaning makeup brushes works just as well with home remedies as with special soaps. But everyone is guaranteed to have one of the products at home.

  1. Brush soap:To clean the bristles of makeup brushes, a mild, usually solid or liquid brush soap is the ideal solution. The advantage: The application is super easy and is suitable for all types of make-up brushes and beauty blenders. Moisten the brush, apply the soap, rinse and shape to dry.
  2. Babyshampoo:A very popular and gentle alternative to cleaning makeup brushes. It is particularly mild and does not irritate the brush bristles. A mild liquid soap can also be used as it cleans thoroughly and is gentle on the bristle set.
  3. Cleansing oil:That's right, cleansing oils that you also use on your face can also be used to clean your brushes. They dissolve make-up residue and oils particularly effectively without drying out the bristles. However, the brush should be rinsed thoroughly after use.
  4. Home remedies:If you don't have any of the products at home, you can also make your own cleaning solution by mixing mild liquid soap or shampoo with a little olive oil and water. The oil helps dissolve makeup residue while the shampoo or soap does the cleaning.

This is how you dry your brushes properly

Hair? You can blow dry, right? Please don't! This would only damage the bristles after cleaning. It's best to let your hair air dry gently. To do this, spread out a towel and place the brushes with the hairs facing downwards so that the water does not run towards the handle. Alternatively, you can also choose kitchen roll.

Or you can use one of these three ingenious hacks to dry the brushes tilted downwards:
