Washing your hair is a routine process that most of us have done thousands of times. Can you actually make mistakes? Yes! A Dyson expert told us what many of us don't do right.
Washing your hair is an everyday routine for most of us. It is a process that is completely automated for many people. An action in which the sequence of steps is clearly defined and which we ultimately follow without thinking too much. We are professionals, we know the whole thing by heart - after all, we have washed our hair thousands of times.
And it usually works – very roughly – something like this: We first wet our hair completely. Then we spread a small amount of shampoo into our hair, massage it in thoroughly and let it work for a short time before we wash the foam out thoroughly again.
We'll now take one step of this hair care routine and go into detail. How do we distribute our shampoo? Are we doing everything right here or are we making a beauty mistake?
These shampoos are popular, for example:
You should avoid this mistake when washing your hair
We spoke to Damian Velluto. The hair expert is a beauty trainer at Dyson. Thanks to his years of experience in the industry, he knows exactly what many of us don't do correctly when washing our hair. This includes, among other things, the way in which the shampoo is applied.
“Many people just mess up their hair when they apply the shampoo,” says Velluto. “You should concentrate on massaging the scalp, but not messing up the lengths too much.”
And there's a good reason for that. “If the hair is tousled and tangled, it is extremely difficult to comb through the hair afterwards. Wet hair in particular is like wet paper. It is much more prone to hair damage. That’s why you shouldn’t tug or pull it too much because it could become brittle.”
“Wet hair is like wet paper.”

The hair lengths are therefore very sensitive. Shampooing your hair creates friction and could damage the cuticle layer of the hair. It is therefore advisable to only massage the shampoo into the roots. When you rinse it out, the ends and lengths automatically get some of the shampoo.
Velluto adds: “If there is a lot of time between washing your hair, then I would also wash the lengths once. But then I would rather pull the foam down from the head to the lengths with my hands.”
