Make your own Christmas decorations with floating candles and natural materials
Candlelight sets the right Christmas spirit, and these candles floating on a bed of winter flowers and shrubs take it up a notch. Three levels to be exact, because glass vases are at different heightscreate a candle arrangement, which is both elegant and cheerful. The floating candles make a beautiful focal point when placed as a set, but you can also scatter them around the room to spread joy.
What you need:
- Zylindervasen aus Klarglas
- colored glass beads (e.g. red, blue or silver)
- artificial green
- artificial flowers
- Wire cutters
- Water
- floating candles
This is how you make the decorative candles step-by-step:
- Carefully place 1-2 centimeter glass beads on the bottom of each glass cylinder. The glass beads are not just for decorative purposes. They add weight to the floor so that the tall candle holders don't tip over. They also provide space for flower and shrub stems.
- Using wire cutters, cut a piece of greens that will fit into the glass container without going over the edge. Place the shrub in the container and insert the end into the glass beads to hold it in place. Add other elements that can be inserted into the beads, such as: B. a stem with red berries.
- Cut the flower petals with wire scissors. Place the flowers in the container facing outward. Resist the temptation to overfill the container. The water increases the contents, so it is important that you get by with little. The floating candles look best when you can actually see some water and not just flowers and shrubs.
- Pour water into the glass cylinder to about an inch below the rim. At this point, you can check whether you are happy with the quantity and placement of the flowers and make adjustments accordingly.
- Place the floating candle on the water. Make sure you choose a candle that can float on water. Such candles are available at home decor and craft stores. The candle should sit horizontally on the water. If it is crooked because a flower is in the way, adjust it or remove the flower until the candle stands straight.
While these floating candles are perfect for the holidays, you can adapt the idea for any season by changing the color and type of filling in the glass containers.
