In times when every housewife focuses on the practical use of baking paper, disposable molds and these silicone when baking, the conventional cake baking pan made of tin has become old-fashioned and somehow obsolete. If you haven't thrown away your old cake pans yet, you can put them to good use in the garden. Even rusty baking tins find a new purpose as decoration.
Ifthat Upcycling ideaThe well-known small and large Gugelhupf shapes can be planted with a beautiful decorative character. Small plants that don't get much bigger become an issue. As usual, these can be grown in an original container and converted into an authentic garden decoration.
In order to plant the cake pan, the usual tools and materials are needed, but you only need a small amount of them. Baking pans are relatively small compared to ordinary flower pots, so if you simply want to repot the plants, they will no longer need substrate.
Several plants can fit into a single cake pan and thrive quite well. Since this is garden decoration, you can put different types together as you like so that the end result ultimately looks harmonious and beautifies your outdoor area.
Plant the muffin tin
Old muffin tin can accommodate several small plants quite neatly and each will have its own area. As a mini flower pot, but connected as a whole, this 'flower tray' looks really fantastic and original. Put it in a representative place so that this imaginative idea can get many words of praise.
which plants come into question?
The plants that you want to plant in such a small container should, in principle, thrive in humus-poor soil. Cacti and succulents are particularly suitable for this. Fortunately, there is a huge variety of these types of plants - sedum species, houseleeks, succulents and mini cacti, which are particularly easy to care for and really robust.
Although these small plants are really robust and undemanding when it comes to substrate, watering and fertilizing, they also require certain care, especially in winter. Since they have adapted to the subtropical environment, they can tolerate drought, but these plants will not survive excessive humidity or low temperatures. From November to March, when it's below 12-6 degrees outside, you should temporarily house them somewhere.
Sedum species, houseleeks, succulents and mini cacti are small but really light-hungry plants. They should only be watered when the substrate has completely dried out. These types of plants grow slowly and need to be fertilized two to three times a year during the growing season in summer.
The pudding form
Particularly decorative, even cute and very easy to care for, the succulent and houseleek species are suitable for people who are often on the go and cannot invest a lot of time in caring for the plants. Also planted in beautiful mini flower pots, they look extremely sweet.
Since these plants are usually native to desert areas, they require very little substrate and are therefore particularly easy to experiment with. Old pudding molds made of aluminum or sheet metal become shiny succulent containers that show character.
Metal effects and shine are a frequently used element in contemporary design that is taking on new meaning. On the other hand, all cake baking pans in modern households have had their day and are no longer usable. These find a good new use as original flower pots inside or outside.
The former cake tins are characterized by their great robustness and most of them have been inherited by every housewife from her mother or even grandmother. You can make a very chic table decoration for the garden table and also indoors. Put a few mini plants in the baking pan and you don't have to do anything else.
Old, playful baking tins can probably be found in the basement or in a corner deep in the kitchen cupboard. If not, browse through the stalls at your next flea market and you're sure to come across one or two treasures.
Make your own hanging basket
You can present the most beautiful cake tins in the best possible way – hanging. Make a hanging basket yourself and hang it in a place where you would like to have some kind of greenery but would have a real way to set one up. Make a hole on two opposite sides and tie with string or suitable chain that will hold the load.
Decorative concrete products have become a real trend recently. There are a variety of designs available on the market, but some are easy to make yourself. Cement is carefully mixed dry in a ratio of 1:3-4 parts sand and then water is added in portions until a uniform, slightly shiny consistency is achieved. Now just shake it into the molds. After the water steams, usually after about 48 hours, the shape created becomes a few millimeters smaller than the original. This means that the concrete figure can be easily removed.
There are various plants that don't require a lot of space to thrive. Bulbous and spring flowers are also another option other than succulents and cacti. You are spoiled for choice! Of course you can make candle holders or lanterns out of them.
Sometimes the garden decoration also has a practical use - for example, it can visually cover confusing areas very well. Well, the parasol in the middle of the garden table is not a convincing image, but with an old cake tin full of flowers it takes on a completely different appearance.
