A Mediterranean garden is the dream of many garden owners. The design conveys a feeling of casualness, is reminiscent of foreign travel destinations and puts you in the mood for a holiday in your own backyard. We have looked at the topic several times to introduce you to the features and elements of this garden, but today we will show you an example of how real Italians see Mediterranean garden design. Architects Fabio Costanzo and Maria Rosaria Piazza are two talented architects from Palermo who founded their Studio 4e in 1996. In their work, they attach great importance to the clever use of natural materials and the building tradition of the surrounding area. You can immediately see this in her design.
The client's requirement to the architects was to improve the design of the existing garden and transform it into an enchanting outdoor space despite its limited size. As a result, a green and modern garden was planned that can be used to relax with the whole family. At the beginning the old stone wall was restored. By experimenting with paving stones in different colors, the architects were able to create an illusion of dynamic movement.
The goal was to create a feeling of a wide courtyard and to realize a unique design. Plants chosen for their aesthetic properties were used to create different colorful zones and to showcase the existing trees incorporated into the design. The end result was a Sicilian garden where the whole family could relax and really enjoy its design.
What is very interesting is that the gravel surface is somehow cemented. In gardening and landscaping, people are increasingly talking about the use of epoxy resin-bound gravel coverings. With this technique, the gravel or fine chippings are bound with a colorless binding agent so that it does not scatter so easily and you do not have to refill it at any time. Maybe this garden is an example of this epoxy bound gravel?
No large lounge furniture was chosen for the seating area, but delicate wrought iron furniture in white. A small round table with four chairs can be moved freely around the garden, depending on the garden owner's mood. In addition, the beautiful sand tone harmonizes with the peach-colored facade and provides a beautiful backdrop for the green plants and trees.
