This step may sound obvious, but it is often neglected. Before you wash the duvet and throw it in the washing machine, you should always pay attention to the washing label. Manufacturers always provide detailed information and instructions about the problem and at what degree the product should be washed.

When washing duvets with feather fillings or down, you should also avoid using fabric softener because it forms a thin layer between the feathers and therefore leads to clumping.

Can you spin the duvet?

We all know the problem - getting the duvet completely dry after washing without a dryer usually takes a long time. In this case, it would be helpful if you spin the blanket after washing. While most blankets are washed at 40 degrees, if you suffer from allergies you can also wash them at 60 degrees, as mites and bacteria cannot survive at such a high temperature. If you are not sure at what temperature you should wash the duvet in the washing machine, use the following guidelines:

  • Wash cotton duvets with synthetic fiber filling – 90 degrees
  • Wash microfiber duvets – 60 degrees
  • Wash down duvets – 60 degrees

So if the duvet is too big for the washing machine, you have a few options to choose from.

  • Take the blanket to the dry cleaner.
