Use old shutters as decoration: build privacy screens, cupboards and shelves yourself

But what could you conjure up from the chic wooden elements? Privacy protection for indoors and outdoors is just one option, because the finished panels are the perfect basis for a wide variety of projects.

One of the easiest construction projects for the old wooden panels is privacy fences and other shielding protective elements. To create a solid fence, these are simply screwed together next to each other. A beam or board at the back and dug into the ground provides the right support.

If you only need a privacy screen in a certain place, you can also build a mobile model. As with the doors from our other post, you simply attach three panels together with hinges. This means you can move the individual elements and fold the privacy screen if necessary and store it to save space.

You can also use smaller wooden shutters for indoor windows. For example, if you don't want to screw curtains, blinds or other opaque accessories into the bathroom, you can use such a privacy screen instead. Simply place it on the windowsill and fold it back up after the bath to let light into the room.

As panels for hanging decorations

Especially if the shutter has slats, these can be used directly to hang flower pots or other decorations.

If the panels are completely closed, simply screw your decorations onto the wood.

Build cabinets

Do you still need a place in the garden where you can store garden tools or cushions? No problem, because you can assemble a cabinet with four identical wooden panels. You simply attach the door with hinges. Also don't forget to attach a hook or magnetic clasp to close it.

You can then install one or two boards inside to create shelves.

Is a whole closet too complex for you? You can also get a little storage space with shelves in a simpler way: Use a shelf bracket to attach as many boards as you like to a wooden shutter and place decorations on them. You can use it to decorate both indoor and outdoor areas.

Old shutters as decoration: vintage headboard

A fresh coat of paint, preferably with a shabby effect, and you can give the wooden shutters a new lease of life. Attached together and made into a large panel, they become an effective headboard for the bedroom or guest room in no time. With the right colors you can even create a maritime atmosphere.

Hide unsightly things in the garden

A privacy screen can be used to shield garbage cans, air conditioning systems, pool filter systems or other devices so that they are no longer as noticeable. Such necessary but hardly attractive ones can quickly ruin the beautiful atmosphere in the garden. Instead of spending a lot of money on brick barrel houses and the like, you can reuse old shutters and screw them together at right angles. If an L-shape is not enough, you can also use three panels and build a U-shape to hide the troublemaker from three sides. Remember not to make the whole thing too narrow so that the systems remain accessible in the event of a malfunction.
