If you prepare a lot of meals throughout the week and need space to do so, this project is for you. What you need is an Ikea Kallax shelf, a table top and some legs. The island has a cooking surface and plenty of storage space inside. The cooking space can also be used as a dining area when you are not cooking.

Materials required:

  • 1 Kallax shelf in white
  • 1 Linnmon table top – black or brown
  • 4 Capita legs
  • 2 Olov silver, height-adjustable legs
  • 4 Kallax inserts with doors – white or black/brown
  • Assembly glue

Guide:

  • Build the Kallax shelf according to the instructions.
  • Attach the Capita legs to each corner. The wooden material of the shelf is quite soft, so you can use the included screws and a screwdriver.
  • Attach the two Olov legs to one side of the Linnmon table top. This comes with the holes already made, so all you have to do is position the plate correctly and screw it back in. No power tools are required for this either.
  • Adjust the height of the adjustable legs (can also be done later)
  • Apply assembly adhesive to the Kallax shelf, making sure to follow the instructions on the packaging.
  • Position and attach the table top to the Kallax storage unit. Allow the adhesive to dry before moving the unit.
  • Assemble the Kallax inserts with doors as described.

Make slime yourself - recipe without glue and borax

The slime trend from the USA is also causing a sensation in Europe - children love playing with the slime. And best of all - the dough can be made from just a few ingredients. We offer you a recipe with which you can make slime yourself. Without borax and glue, of course.

  • Assemble the top and sides of the Ikea unit following the instructions provided. We recommend building the slightly thinner piece as the top and the thicker pieces as the sides.
  • Turn the entire piece over and place it on the floor, preferably a rug. On the bottom of each side, use a ruler or tape measure to measure approximately 3 centimeters from each edge. Place your rollers there for reference and use a pencil to outline the location of the screws.
  • Once you are happy with the placement of the casters, drill the holes for them and screw each of them into place to ensure they are stable.
  • If desired, add supports to the bottom of the tabletop by measuring the center along each side. Outline the location of the screws, drill and secure the supports in place.
  • Once you have tightened all the screws, carefully turn the Ikea kitchen island onto theRoll and moveit to the desired location.

Trestle table with adjustable legs

If you get a Finnvard trestle table from Ikea, you can easily transform it into a suitable kitchen island. The great thing about this item is that you can mount the legs at different heights. This means that you could combine a matching kitchen worktop with shelves or shelves underneath in one. The whole thing can function as additional storage space and as a high breakfast table at the same time.

Materials required:

  • Two Ikea Finnvard trestles
  • A 120 cm X 80 cm wooden board for the table top
  • Two 90 cm X 35 cm or one 90 cm X 70 cm wooden planks
  • Wood polish
  • sandpaper

Directions:

  • Start assembling the Finnvard table legs following the instructions in the manual.
  • Sand the boards of the wood with fine sandpaper to ensure they are smooth. Then follow the instructions to rub the protector onto the wood.
  • Once dry, carefully mark where the upper removable part of the Finnvard needs to go through the two smaller wooden planks.
  • Use a drill/driver to drill several holes in the marked area, then use a rasp to file the area to create a clean rectangle. The upper, removable part of the table legs goes through here.
  • First, place the two small wooden planks on top of the trestle table and press the top parts, which can be removed through the rectangle you just sawed.
  • Finally, use the wooden pegs included with the table legs to lock them at the correct height, place the larger wooden plank on top and secure. Complete.
