When setting up your house or apartment, lighting planning is very important. A lack of light or a missing light source can completely destroy the living atmosphere. But with the right lighting concept for the house, every room can be put in the right light. This not only includes modern and functional lighting options, but also the successful use and control of daylight. Today we present to you a beautiful example in a private home in Malibu, USA.
Lighting concept for the house and fascinating entrance door design
Located on a steep slope overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Montee Karp House spans 2,200 square feet. The project involves extensive redesign and adaptation to the environment and lifestyle in the 21st century. The existing roof geometry is accentuated and faceted surfaces have been created. The front facade facing the slope runs diagonally anddefines the interior spaces, which leads to a dematerialization of the roof, wall and floor surfaces. This perspective aims to frame the extraordinary view of Santa Monica Bay.

The minimalist, gallery-like living space was also intended to be the new home for the client's extensive collection of contemporary art. Exhibition niches, accent lighting and the configuration of the rooms are designed to enhance the experience of viewing the art objects.

The staircase consists of floating steel steps with a personalized laser-cut pattern. The light from the skylight is filtered through the steps and projects fascinating images on the walls and floor.

A swing door with a side pivot acts as an entrance door. It has a concealed magnetic lock and interestingly filters the light coming from the interior.
