Fitness trends 2025: These will be the 7 most popular sports of the year - and some we didn't expect

Passionate gym-goers will have already noticed: the fitness studios are full to capacity again. An above-average number of people follow through with their detox in a disciplined manner and completely realign their routines. For a healthier lifestyle. The turn of the year marks the– and pretty much everyone is highly motivated to do something for their health in 2025. Perfect timing!

Why is health awareness so pronounced this year in particular? While the socio-political world situation has become more and more dire over the past year and as a result, most people have felt a constant feeling of powerlessness, the trend forecast for 2025 is clear. Since we still have to deal with many issues that we have little or no influence on, we prefer to consciously devote ourselves to the things that we have control over ourselves. That's exactly why many people want to take care of one thing above all in 2025: their own fitness.

This is also confirmed by PureGym's annual fitness report. A quarter of people have already increased their spending on physical fitness in 2024 - and the trend is rising. For their study, PureGym has the current number of monthly global Google searches for more than 200compared with the previous year and thus predicted the fitness trends for 2025. We show you the seven biggest trends that are on the rise this year.

1. Fitnesstrend 2025: Remote Personal Training

After Wall Pilates was THE star of the fitness sky in 2024, the sport on the wall is now being replaced. Anyone who is reluctant to go to the gym can rejoice: the biggest fitness trend of 2025 is no less local than last year's. According to PureGym, remote personal training will become the biggest sports trend of all in 2025. What is that about? About personal training in your own four walls. And no shouting trainer will come to your house. You receive a training program tailored to you via app, video call or an integrated fitness device.

After the pandemic led to thishas become an integral part of everyday life, personal training also benefits from the new technical possibilities in everyone's home, as more and more trainers offer online services. This means that customized programs can be created from anywhere in the world. Are you now thinking that no one will use this? Apparently yes. The search volume for the term “remote personal training” has increased by a whopping 414 percent worldwide in the last few months.

2. Fitnesstrend 2025: Hyrox

Of all the 2025 fitness trends, Hyrox is the one with the biggest event character. Hyrox is a fitness competition that combines elements of endurance and strength training. The competitions are, so to speak, a race plus a fitness course, in which the participants go through eight different stations, each of which represents a physical challenge. Each station consists of a specific exercise, such as rowing, skiing, running, sled pulling and pushing, wall balls, kettlebell swings and other functional movements. The participants compete against each other in different age groups and levels of difficulty. Whether beginner or advanced – everyone can take part!

Last year, Hyrox landed in fourth place among the biggest fitness trends according to the PureGym Fitness Report. The fitness challenge has already risen to second place for 2025. Who knows – maybe you can even get first place by the end of the year? In any case, the numbers speak for the sport: the keyword “Hyrox” is searched for a full 233 percent more on Google than in the previous year. And in Great Britain, one in ten Brits intends to take part in a Hyrox competition this year.

3. Fitness trend 2025: 30-30-30

Another training trend that is very popular this year according to PureGym surveys is the 30-30-30 rule. This is less about the sport itself and more about a healthy morning routine. The concept goes back to the book “The Four Hour Body” by Timothy Ferris, which was actually published back in 2010.

Why is it more relevant today than ever? Because biologist, biohacker and longevity expert Gary Brecka reiterated this rule in his viral TikTok videos. The rule states that you should eat 30 grams of protein 30 minutes after getting up and then do 30 minutes of moderate cardiovascular exercise with your pulse not exceeding 135 beats per minute. The goal: to get your metabolism going first thing in the morning.

Why the rule went viral? The diet is intended to effectively help you lose weight. However, the same applies here: no diet in the world can work miracles, and a concept never works equally for everyone. The method is healthy per se because it contains exercise and a lot of protein. However, it is still crucial that you eat a balanced, healthy diet and generally exercise adequately. The WHO recommends that adults engage in at least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate to high-intensity physical activity per week.

4. Fitnesstrend 2025: Quadrobics

Trends such as Tarzan training, forest and ice bathing have shown us in recent years: a return to nature is a big hype in the fitness industry. But have you ever heard of Quadrobics? Or have you already come across videos on TikTok of people wearing animal masks jumping through the forest?

When we searched social media for number four fitness trends for 2025, we were initially surprised. For everyone's reassurance, the TikTok videos of people dancing around dressed as cats show the more unusual part of the sport. Because Quadrobics – whether with a mask or without – is a serious full-body workout in which the movements of a (usually) four-legged animal are imitated. Exercises such as the “crab walk” or “bear crawl” primarily train the quadriceps muscles to improve strength, mobility and coordination.

5. Fitnesstrend 2025: Virtual Fitness

Fifth place follows on from first place and shows that online fitness formats are much more relevant than already thought. Virtual Fitness generally refers to fitness and training programs that are accessible via any digital platform. This means you can start the sports session from anywhere. Remote personal training, possibly the biggest fitness trend of 2025, is just a small part of virtual fitness. This also includes on-demand fitness classes, live classes, fitness apps, platforms with fitness communities and much more.

Thanks to ever-evolving new technologies and accessibility for all, the virtual fitness trend will certainly not leave us anytime soon. The biggest advantages: an incredible variety of programs, sports and trainers and the ability to personalize the training at any time. The biggest obstacle: finding the motivation and performing the exercises technically correctly. In some sports, it's good to have a trainer look at the movement every now and then.

6. Fitness trend 2025: Stroller Fitness

The target group for the next fitness trend is relatively clear: parents, mostly mothers, of small children. How come? Because the main “object” used to train is a stroller. Stroller Fitness is a type of group fitness class that takes place primarily outdoors.

The exercises combine conditioning and strengthening elements that are specifically aimed at rebuilding strength and endurance after birth. The course usually takes place in a park or other safe and pleasant outdoor area, and the stroller is the central “support” item that parents use. Stroller fitness has been searched for 127 percent more often in the past few months than in the previous year - clearly a fitness trend that is emerging here!
