Trans* Model Kai Schreiber on Paris Fashion Week
Valentino's fashion show took place on March 9th under the name “Le Méta-Théâtre des Intimité” (the meta-theater of intimities) in Paris. Why the appearance of Trans* Model Kai Schreiber is now so important
The occupation of the young writers was a particularly moving choice in view of the intentions of the Valentino creative director Alessandro Michele. The backdrop of the show was a bright red, gender -neutral public toilet. When the men and women walk over the catwalk, they first normalize the gender -neutral space. But it is also important that a trans* model explicitly enters this room and can feel safe.
In a statement posted on Instagram, Michele shared his considerations of intimacy as a kind of performance - and quoted the theorists Michel Foucault and Hannah Arendt. He describes his catwalk as a “dystopian, disturbing, Lynch -like space”, which is also “temporarily autonomous space, free of the codification of norms that is proud to be political because he has the potential to undermine any rigid binary classification”.
Michele does not explicitly mentions trans* people, but the connection is easy to establish: a number of trans* enemy laws have been enforced in the United States for years.
