The system of Nepo babies, the privileged children, godchildren and grandchildren of showbiz greats, is not new. In 2022, however, we noticed that more and more young models, actors and musicians were coming into the spotlight, whose greatest talent at first glance might be their name. The US-American“New York Magazine”even went so far as to proclaim 2022 the “Year of the Nepo Baby”. And this trend will not be over in 2024 – on the contrary.
Nepo babies: why is everyone talking about them?

“Nepo-Baby” is made up of two words: “nepo”, English, short for “nepotism” and “baby”. Nepo-Baby refers to people who, because of their family and their relationships, have better starting conditions for their careers than “normal people”. They don't necessarily have to be stars. For example, the law student whose father is a judge and has a well-oiled network that protects and promotes his daughter and son is also a Nepo baby.
Since January 2023, a particularly large number of people have been talking about the Nepo babies, which seem to be flooding the streets of Hollywood and New York. Dads who are actors, moms who are models, grandpas who have produced TV series - they all leave the entertainment business, the film, series, music and public world to their well-off, rich offspring and was born with the right name into a well-connected family and went to the right school with his and her peers and from there founded a new, top network of his own. The fact that there are still young stars who can't fall back on this seemingly all-encompassing network is surprising when you look at the world and family trees of the Nepo babies. Shortly after the release, some Nepo Babies spoke out themselves: Jamie Lee Curtis, 64-year-old icon of the “Halloween” films, spoke openly about her existence as a Nepo Baby and that it was primarily her name (and not her talent) would have secured one or two film roles. Apparently the photo is a fake, a good Photoshop trick by an unknown person. But it would actually be pretty smart of the 26-year-old, because like us mere mortals, the same applies to her: you can't choose your own family. If you are automatically given privileges when you are born into a certain family, they can only recognize and accept this - or not. Because there are supposed to be children of stars who lead perhaps privileged but ordinary lives away from the limelight and the red carpet. And: There are also enough children of stars who, despite all their privileges and connections, do not do anything successful with their lives.
Like that“New York Magazine”headlined, it's not just about your own, at best famous, name, but also about the pack of agents and publicists who create careers in the background, push the daughters and sons of celebrities forward and elbow them Exit No Names. They are the ones who maintain close ties between studios and stars, designers and models without family obligations but in exchange for money and who know exactly who would have to be where and when in order to follow in the footsteps of the famous mother or father.
