The best raclette grill 2024: 15 devices in comparison
Every year there is raclette at least once during the holidays - melted cheese belongs in the winter like a fir tree in the living room and mulled wine on top. And even apart from Christmas, and Co., Raclette is a cozy and sociable dinner in the cold season and is perfect for dinner parties with friends or a nice evening with the family.
But which raclette grill is the best? I have taken a close look at the best models and summarized what you need to know when buying and using them.
The best raclette grills at a glance
Raclette grills at Stiftung Warentest
DieStiftung Warentestis a neutral consumer organization that tests goods and services in independent institutes and is therefore one of the most reliable sources when it comes to making informed purchasing decisions. For this raclette grill test, I also based myself on the institute's rating.
In December 2019, Stiftung Warentest tested twelve electric raclettes with table grills and...Raclette grill “RC 1600” from Rommelsbacherdeclared the winner with the quality rating GOOD (1.7). The device impressed in a direct comparison in the “raclette” and “grilling” categories with top marks of 1.8 and 1.6. What should you pay attention to when buying a raclette grill?
A quick Google search reveals that the selection of raclette grills is now huge, and they all offer different functions and benefits. Six or twelve pans? Grill plate or natural stone? This is what you should pay attention to when purchasing so that you can find the best device for your needs and the perfect dinner. Simply click on the topic and find out more.
The size of the raclette depends entirely on your personal preferences and what you primarily want to use the grill for. There are small raclettes with two to four pans, which are ideal for a romantic couple's dinner at home. However, if you like to invite family and friends over for dinner, you should choose a larger device with eight to twelve slots. For all cheese lovers among you, we recommend: The Bigger, the Better - two pans per person ensure more efficient cheese melting and hunger satisfaction more quickly.
Grill plate or natural stone?
Here you can choose whether you would prefer to grill on a non-stick plate or on a natural stone. Both materials have their advantages and disadvantages: The grill plate is usually quite thin, which is why it heats up and cools down quickly and is ideal for spontaneous raclette evenings. The natural stone, on the other hand, requires more time to heat up, but stores the heat longer and ensures even heat distribution, while the grill plate can become unevenly warm in places due to the heating coil.
How many watts should a good raclette grill have? Basically, the higher the wattage (W), the faster the grill plate and pans heat up. A high output (1000 to 1500) is particularly useful if you want to grill meat or vegetables on top of the plate or enjoy the raclette in larger groups. For a mini raclette for two people, 350 watts are often enough.
Do you want to use your raclette machine primarily for classic cheese melting or experiment with additional features such as a crepe or pizza function? The spectrum ranges from traditional models with a simple melting function to innovative multifunctional devices with various grill levels and preparation options that ensure versatile enjoyment.
Most raclette machines include at least the pans, which are of course absolutely essential. To protect their non-stick coating, scrapers are recommended, as metal knives or forks can cause scratches. Tongs to grip ingredients safely and coasters to protect your table from burn marks are nice to have, but most manufacturers don't come with them. Higher-quality raclette models often offer an integrated parking deck for the pans, which provides additional convenience.

You don't just want to put cheese, potatoes and corn on the table? With these extraordinary raclette ideas, every evening will be a success!
This is how you clean the raclette grill
After a delicious dinner, you unfortunately can't avoid cleaning the next day - and it can be quite stubborn with grease stains, burnt cheese residue, etc. How do you clean the raclette grill correctly?
To ensure that your device remains ready for use for a long time, here are easy step-by-step instructions:
- Allow to cool:First, unplug the power plug and let the raclette grill cool down thoroughly before cleaning - ideally over an hour or overnight, but at least until the pans only feel lukewarm.
- Remove loose dirt:Remove any loose food residue with a paper towel or sponge. You can carefully loosen stubborn residues on the grill plate with a wooden or silicone spatula.
- Wash the pan:Let the pans soak well and then rinse them with warm water and a little dishwashing liquid. Some manufacturers even advertise that the pans can be easily cleaned in the dishwasher.
- Clean the grill plate:Remove the grill plate and clean it with water and dish soap. Make sure not to use sharp-edged metal sponges on coated plates, as these can attack the non-stick coating. Stone slabs should also only be cleaned under running water and never soaked, otherwise they will become saturated with water and break the next time they are used.
- Wipe down the raclette grill:Finally, wipe the device with a damp cloth to remove any grease or food splatters and be careful not to get any liquid on the electronics.
- Allow to dry:Allow all parts to dry thoroughly before assembling and the raclette grill is ready for the next dinner party.
