All information about the live-action film adaptation of Disney’s “Snow White”
The story of Snow White is a classic and has often been tried to be retold on film, but this is the new onevonwithGal GadotandRachel Zeglercould really be quite something. Even if it is still a big secret, some things are already known.
In 1937, Disney ventured into the Brothers Grimm fairy tale for the first time and published an animated film based on them. There have already been a few adaptations, including Universal's dark fairy tale “Snow White and the Huntsman” with Charlize Theron andin the main roles as well as the 2012 film “Mirror Mirror” with Julia Roberts and, but Disney hadn't revisited the fairy tale - until now.

DisneyThe first trailer for “Snow White” is here
Actually, we almost didn't expect it anymore - as little information as there was about the film. But now the first trailer is here – and it looks beautiful! The music, the magic - and of course especially Rachel Zegler. You can see the full trailer here:
“Snow White”: The first official picture is here – and it looks completely different than expected
We didn't expect that. In July 2023, a first picture of the “seven dwarfs” was taken on the set of “Snow White”. However, there were no “dwarves” to be seen here, but rather seven companions, some of them people of color, they were big and small, women* or men*.
The image - which was not an official one - is hard to find these days, even in the depths of the Internet.
This led to a lot of criticism at the time because the film didn't stick to the original. At the time we thought that they didn't necessarily have to, because dwarves are fantasy creatures and can look however we want.
But it seems as if Disney took the criticism to heart. In the first official image from Disney, however, the dwarves look completely different than in the behind-the-scenes image.
The seven dwarves are now actually dwarves: small, misshapen, big noses, broad faces and a long beard. In the painted version the dwarves looked quite nice, but in real life they seem a bit bizarre. Let's see how it behaves when the seven dwarves actually move - it looks as if they were completely computer animated. However, Disney still has a bit of time for the animation because the release of the film has been pushed back.
“Snow White” content: The Disney remake wants to take a new direction
The Disney live-action film adaptation of “Snow White” was filmed by director Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) in the summer of 2022 – but not much is known about the content of the remake yet. However, some aspects of the original film will change and be updated.
For one thing, Snow White is played by Rachel Zegler, who is of Colombian descent. In an interview withVarietyin 2022, Rachel Zegler explains that Snow White has iconic status in Spanish-speaking countries. “But you still don’t see people like me playing roles like this. At the end of the day, I have a role that I'm really excited about. I’m going to be a Latina princess.”
In an interview withBuzzfeedIn December 2021, Rachel Zegler teased something about the content of “Snow White”: “There's not much I can say about Snow White except that it's been constantly criticized. Despite being the original Disney princess, she has been criticized a lot because she only exists for the prince, and only so that she can be saved.” She adds that director Marc Webb and everyone else involved in the film flipped the narrative and made her a strong character. She looks forward to seeing this idea put into action.
Another hurdle the film must overcome is the portrayal of the “seven dwarves” who appear in the original Disney film. In January 2022, Peter Dinklage, who is short himself, denounced in onePodcastthe backward story of Snow White. Disney responded to the allegations by assuring that the studio would be in touch with the short stature community and tell the story with a different approach. In doing so, they want to avoid reinforcing harmful stereotypes about people of short stature. “We look forward to sharing more as the film goes into production after going through a long period of development.” Although the film wrapped filming in summer 2022, Disney has yet to comment on it.
“Snow White” remake: Controversy even before the film starts
Even before the film's release, leading actress Rachel Zegler is now at the center of a controversy: after she said in an interview in 2022: "It's no longer 1937. We're telling the story of a Snow White who doesn't have to be saved by a prince. And she doesn’t dream of true love, but of being a leading figure.” This quote is given to the actress now: She is said to have pseudo-feminism. A TikTok user criticized: “It is not feminist that a woman is worth less because she falls in love or accepts help from someone instead of trying to solve her problems on her own no matter what.”
Another person chimed in on TikTok: “This is not what we should be teaching our girls. We should teach them that they can achieve and have anything they want. It's okay if you want to be saved. It's okay to wait for Prince Charming. In my opinion, that’s exactly what feminism is.”
However, Rachel Zegler's statements in the interview can also be understood to mean that her Snow White in the Disney remake is not a helpless young woman who is constantly dependent on help and her lifewould. We will all only see what the new Snow White is really like in the cinema.
“Snow White” remake: This is the Disney cast
The male lead in the Disney remake of “Snow White” has officially been cast, and that really leaves us wanting more. ActorAndrew Burnapshe will take over. However, it is not yet knownwhichRole he will take - because he should be neither the hunter nor the prince. He plays alongsideRachel Zegler(“West Side Story”), who will play Snow White. Model and actressGal Gadot(“Wonder Woman”) will take on the role of the evil queen.Dujonna GiftandColin Michael Carmichaelwill also appear, although their roles are still unknown.
The new thing also seems to be privateSnow WhiteRachel Zegler seems to be a real fan of the classic. Back in June 2021 - shortly after her new role was announced - the actress posted herself dancing next to a Snow White actress in a costume similar to that of the fairytale character. She commented: “Homegirl, we have a lot of catching up to do.”
“Snow White”: Music from the classic
The remake will recreate the music from the classic. There will also be new songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the Oscar-winning duo who, among other things, also created the songs“La La Land”is responsible.
Rachel Zegler already has her singing talent in Steven Spielberg's remake of the musical film“West Side Story”proven - and we can't wait to hear her perform the "Snow White" songs in the Disney remake.
“Snow White”: When will the Disney remake be in theaters?
It was actually published that filming of the production was completed in summer 2022. However, if you completely animate the dwarves, the time in post-production will obviously increase. The publication was postponed a few times. First it was March 21, 2024, then June 21, 2025. Now it's official: “Snow White” will be shown in German cinemas from March 20, 2025.
