“The Madness” is a parable about our present and the means of war that are currently being used to raise fronts: truth and, the power with which rich people can undermine entire systems, and the cover under which they operate.
But who really framed Muncie for the murder? And why?
“The Madness”, ending explained: This is the plot in the political thriller
A black news anchor who advocates for thekilled a well-known neo-Nazi, who regularly engages in agitation in a newsletter, in a lonely forest? Never in my life! Behind the murder of neo-Nazi Mark Simon alias “Brother14” there is more of a plot, the scope of which no one would have expected at the beginning of “The Madness”.
“Revitalize” Rodney Kaintz (Neal Huff) is ultimately (or: from episode 8) the billionaire who made Muncie Daniels’ life hell. The reason: He was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time (several times). Not only is Kaintz responsible for the murder of Mark Simon, but he also had his henchman and “Revitalize” partner Stu Magnussen (Bradley Whiteford) killed. But why all this now? For personal reasons?
No way: Kaintz had Mark Simon murdered because he was just a small particle in a much larger plot that set itself the task of nothing less than a disinformation campaign in the election environment. The majority of people involved in this are anonymous super-rich people who go overboard. That's why Kaintz also had Magnusson murdered, because he only needed him for his money; Kaintz didn't care about the neo-Nazi doctrine that he and the group “The Forge” pursue in “The Madness”.
Because the inconspicuous billionaire Kaintz was all about power: He is the majority shareholder in “Revitalize”; the tech company, which in a country like the USA, where society is drifting ever further apart, ostensibly sponsors election campaigns and perhaps promotes dubious strategies - but actually controls the entire narrative of the political dialogue.
But why was Muncie now framed for Mark's murder?
Easy, because this storyline just fit perfectly into the entire agenda of “Revitalize”: When Kaintz became aware that Muncie Daniels had booked himself into an Airbnb next to Mark Simon, whom he wanted to get rid of anyway because he was no longer useful to him , the billionaire has decided to frame the black news anchor for the murder. That way he would have killed two birds with one stone. That's exactly how he explains it to the series' protagonist, who is on the brink of madness: "You were just there," Kaintz says to Muncie Daniels in the last episode. That he destroyed his life and Daniel's his lifeowed? The super rich don't care.
