Netflix announces “Wednesday” season 2

What follows is a compilation of scenes that we unfortunately already know from the first season. Although production for the second season has already begun, no new images have emerged yet. Rather, excerpts from fan events are shown that prove what a cultural and, above all, global phenomenon “Wednesday” is. It's not without reason that the Netflix series has been in the spotlight since its release at the end of November.
After announcing that there will be a second season, Wednesday reveals in the video: "Honestly, I wish I cared a little more." But, dear Wednesday, you are really alone with this statement. We are happy to finally have the certainty of finding out more about the spooky teenager's life.

Lady Gaga joins the cast!
This was definitely supposed to be a surprise – oops! Sources now confirm, among other things, toVariety, that Lady Gaga will appear in the second season of “Wednesday”.
Even though there is no official description of her character yet, we certainly have to be prepared for the fact that it will only be a small cameo.Varietyreports that Netflix tried to get Gaga a larger role, but unfortunately it didn't work out. The second season has been filming in Ireland since May - Lady Gaga was mainly busy with the second part of “Joker” and is finally scheduled to release a new album next year, 2025.
Jenna Ortega had previously spoken about how Netflix would definitely love Lady Gaga to appear in the new season. In season 1 it wentwith her viral, over which fans on TikTok had put a remix of Gaga's “Bloody Mary”.
Is there a trailer?
Unfortunately, there is no official trailer for the second season of “Wednesday” yet. On September 19th, Netflix released a first behind-the-scenes look at the second season in celebration of Geeked Week 2024. “Hello, my little storm cloud,” says Luis Guzmán as Wednesday’s father Gomez Addams. Then the audience gets their first impressions of Guzmán, Emma Myers, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Thing and Joy Sunday.
“This season will be bigger and crazier than you could ever imagine,” we are promised. We then see Tim Burton as the director on set - who, by the way, is illuminated by police lights, whatever that means... There's so much to see in the behind-the-scenes video that you could pause and analyze every frame, including a scene in which Wednesday shouts “FIGHT” with her fist raised on stage at some kind of rally. That’s what “Wednesday” Season 2 is about
Not much is known about the content of the second season of “Wednesday”. However, one of the showrunners, Alfred Gough, revealed a few details to the industry magazineThe Hollywood Reporter: “We want to explore and complicate all of these relationships next season.”
After the Netflix series actually wanted to focus on a love triangle, fans focused primarily on the relationship/friendship between Wednesday and Enid (Emma Myers) fell. Alfred Gough also supports this sentiment: “For us, the series is really about female friendship – especially between Wednesday and Enid. We're pleased that this relationship was really well received by the audience. We can't wait to explore what Wednesday's friendship looks like. She hugged someone!”
Furthermore, the showrunners also want thatbetween Wednesday and Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Now that her mother knows about her powers - which she also has - the relationship between them could change dramatically. Will Wednesday get closer to her mother again or will she continue to isolate herself because she doesn't want to live in her shadow?
The Netflix series is intended to completely avoid romantic relationships
Jenna Ortega even wishes that “Wednesday” would take an even darker path. “I want it to be even darker,” she toldEntertainment Tonightabout their hopes for a second season. She added: "I think I want her to portray more of an anti-hero than a typical heroine."
In June 2023 she announced inVarietys“Actors on Actors” interview an update. “It's still in the development phase,” she says of the second season, “but we decided we wanted to focus more on the horror. We forego any romantic relationships, which is really great. We are becoming bolder, darker.”
This is the new cast of the second season
On May 7, 2024, Netflix announced not only that filming had begun, but also the new cast!
Jenna Ortegawill reprise her role as Wednesday.Catherine Zeta-Joneswill return as Morticia andLuis Guzsmanappear as Gomez.Emma Myersas Enid andJoy Sundaywill also appear again as Bianca. The entire new cast reads as follows: Thandiwe Newton as Dr. Fairburn, Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort, Billie Piper as Capri and Joanna Lumley as Grandmama. The remaining cast includes Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, Noah Taylor, Frances O'Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, Joonas Suotamowill, and "Addams Family" actor Christopher Lloyd, who played Uncle Fester in the 1991 film.
Also confirmed to be returning are Hunter Doohan (Tyler Galpin), Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester), Jamie McShane (Sheriff Galpin) and Moosa Mostafa (Eugene Otinger). Missing from the announcement are actors Naomi J. Ogawa (Yoko Tanaka) and Percy Hynes White (Xavier). Were against the latterdue to sexual violence.
Gwendoline Christie's characterunfortunately died in the first season - unfortunately she will not be returning.
In the second season shouldSome Birch() play the guard in Wednesday's dorm (the role previouslyChristina Riccias Marilyn Thornhill held). But the actress had to stop filming in Romania for personal reasons. She had probably already shot a majority of her scenes, but couldn't finish them all. However, she will not be returning to the set. It is not yet clear whether she will be replaced or whether the scenes that have already been filmed will make it into the series.
Will Tim Burton direct again?
In the first season of “Wednesday,” Tim Burton directed four of the eight episodes while also serving as producer. The director is known for his own spin on dark productions. He will also return in the second season of “Wednesday” and direct four episodes – including the first episode.
When will the new season of “Wednesday” be released?
There is no confirmed release date for“Wednesday”, Staffel 2.We know filming resumed in Ireland in May 2024. During Geek Week at Netflix it was announced that the second season would be released in 2025. Since there is no final trailer yet, we will probably have to wait until October 2025.
