There really are people who have absolutely nothing to do with Christmas. I'm the complete opposite, more of a real hardcore Christmas fan. Probably also because I associate so many beautiful memories, smells and feelings with it. Christmas was always special in our house. Because my parents made it so.

And that's exactly the kind of magic I want to create with my children. I also want them, no matter how old they are, to remember the most wonderful time of the year with a smile. The special atmosphere. The special air that crackled noticeably on the days before Christmas Eve. Of the little bit more love that came to us.

In order to preserve these special moments and also to create lasting memories for the children, traditions are of course very important. There are also little things you can make or do that will put a smile on your face later, when the children are grown and have families of their own.

So: have fun together, turn up the Christmas music, bake cookies and take part in every tradition that Christmas has to offer. One day the memories will warm your heart.

So that you have some tangible memories, we have a few tips that you can use to make Christmas traditions even more beautiful.

1. Homemade tree decorations

Cute tree decorations can later become a wonderful souvenir of the time when your children were little. For example, make ornaments with their handprints. Now your baby's hands are still small, but that won't always be the case. Your children can then place their hand over the ornament each year and see how big they have grown.

Or you can make new ornaments every year, in bright colors and with years. This is how you create truly tangible memories.

2. Cute Christmas pajamas

What could be better than the pure anticipation on your little ones' faces when they wake up on Christmas Eve morning and rush around the apartment more excited than ever? If they also have cute Christmas pajamas (like this one on Amazon)*, this sweet image will be burned into your memory forever.

They'll probably only wear Christmas jumpsuits or pajamas over the holidays, so there's no reason to spend a lot of money on them, but the sight of your kids in a Christmas onesie will make you melt. It also makes Christmas morning the perfect photo opportunity and a memory that will last forever - for you and the children.

3. Meet Santa Claus

Doesn't everyone have at least one picture from their childhood where they meet Santa Claus? The best shots are often taken when children meet Santa Claus for the first time. Some people might cry when they meet for the first time because it's a bit strange. But you can also quickly press the shutter button on your camera and then quickly comfort your child.

Because believe it or not, the offspring will later be grateful to you for capturing this moment (even if they felt completely different in the actual moment). Maybe the result is simply a sweet recording. In any case, your children will enjoy looking at the photo later and you will too.

4. Real snapshots

This point is related to the other, but goes much further: Take photos of everything. Lots of photos. Of course, you don't need professional pictures like you would with a photographer, but snapshots with your cell phone can be taken quickly and will be so valuable later.

Capture all the important moments with your little ones: baking with grandma, opening presents with your godmother, drinking cocoa while watching a Christmas movie, etc. Also ask relatives to take pictures of you and your little ones.

And very important: actually print out the pictures and stick them in a real photo album! The beautiful photos are of no use to anyone if they languish on a hard drive.

5. Beautiful Christmas stockings

Traditional Christmas Stockings (like this one on Amazon)* are a wonderful custom and create a festive atmosphere in the home. Pick out a cute stocking for each family member and get them personalized! Even if you don't use them for stuffing on St. Nicholas Day, but just for decoration, you will unpack these stockings year after year and enjoy them adding the Christmas magic to your home.

If you enjoy crafts or sewing, you can even make them yourself or sew on the names of your loved ones yourself - maybe you can even make it a craft afternoon together when the children are a little older.
