Delicious one-pot Viking pot recipe

For our one-pot recipe we use orzo pasta. At first glance they look like large grains of rice, but they are made from durum wheat semolina. By the way, in Turkish and Greek cuisine, orzo is known as Kritharaki. You can usually find them under this name in Turkish supermarkets.

But no matter what you call them: They are ideal for our Viking pot and are super easy to prepare.

Ingredients for 4 servings:

For the meatballs

  • 400 g minced meat
  • 1 onion
  • 1 No
  • 30 g breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon sweet paprika powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 Prise Pfeffer

For the sauce

  • 2 carrots
  • 150 g peas (frozen)
  • 100 ml Sahne
  • 1 tbsp processed cheese
  • 200 ml beef broth
  • 200 ml water
  • 200 g Orzo-Nudeln (bzw. Kritharaki)

Preparation is so easy:

1. First we prepare the meatballs. To do this, peel an onion and dice it finely (this can be done particularly quickly with an onion chopper, like this one from Amazon*). Place in a large bowl with the minced meat. Add the remaining ingredients and mix everything well. Then form small balls out of it.

2. Peel and chop the carrots. Now heat some oil in a large pan and fry the meatballs until crispy on all sides. Then remove from the pan and set aside briefly.

3. Then add the orzo pasta to the still hot pan and fry it briefly. Deglaze with water and beef broth and bring to the boil.

4. Now add carrots and peas and let everything cook until the water has almost boiled away. Now try to see if the noodles are already cooked. If they are still a little too hard, add a splash of water and let them simmer for a moment longer.

Tipp:You can also use canned peas and carrots.

5. Finally, pour in the cream and stir in the processed cheese. Put the meatballs back in the pan, warm them up and season everything with salt and pepper. Bon appetit!
