6. Heinzel's Winter Fairy Tale (Cologne)
The Christmas market “Heinzel’s Winter Fairy Tale” in Cologne’s old town really gets you in the mood for Christmas. If you don't get in the mood here, you won't be able to help. Because children's eyes will start to shine at the sight of the great ice skating rink in the middle of the market, which offers great attractions such as curling or ice dancing.
But there is also an incredible amount to discover for adults here and you will be watched everywhere by the hard-working little brownies. The traditional house spirits originate from a Cologne legend. They are said to have done people's housework that had been left behind during the night. In Cologne they return during the Christmas season as a winter fairy tale and provide fantastic food, delicious mulled wine and a great atmosphere.
You can find Heinzel's winter fairy tales at the Alter Markt and the Heumarkt. While the Christmas market on the Alter Markt closes after Christmas Eve, you can enjoy the atmosphere at the Heumarkt even into January.

The Christkindlesmarkt in Karlsruhe is located on Friedrichsplatz and offers a beautiful Christmas backdrop. Although Karlsruhe is considered a Christmas city and therefore actually benefits from several Christmas markets, the Christkindlesmarkt is definitely the most popular.
No wonder, because it attracts visitors with many great attractions. Normally, the “Flying Santa Claus” by the Traber artist family is one of the highlights, but unfortunately this will not take place this year as the organizers want to avoid large gatherings of people due to the program. Nevertheless, you can get into the wonderful Christmas spirit here with great treats and delicious mulled wine.
