In advance in the video: Making Christmas decorations with children

Create a Christmas atmosphere with a homemade star garland. Here are the simple craft instructions.

The online shops and stores are already full of Christmas decorations in October, as far as the eye can see. I can totally understand that. After all, you want to enjoy the most wonderful time of the year for as long as you can and not just in December. At the moment I have to hold back from putting all the cute figures, cups, etc. in my shopping cart. Especially when there are so many things you can easily make yourself.

Shopping-Tipp:Be prepared for the holiday season with Cricut DIY machines. With the craft and cutting machines (Shop the Cricut Amazon store here*) you can easily create your own, individual Christmas cards and the most beautiful decorations.

Like a Christmas star garland, for example. It looks great on the mantel in the living room or to decorate the windows. Of course, you can buy lots of garlands online. But with a little upcycling it looks much more rustic and at the same time is a nice afternoon activity for young and old.

You need these things for crafting:

  • A pair of scissors
  • A pen
  • A glue stick
  • Yarn, cord or jute twine
  • Old book pages or wrapping paper
  • A star-shaped cookie cutter (is available here on Amazon*)
  • Optional small glitter stars

And it's that easy:

1. Cut out lots of stars of the same size from old book pages or wrapping paper. Simply use a cookie cutter to trace the shape with a pen.

Tipp:For even easier crafting, you can use a Cricut crafting machine instead of scissors, a pen and a cookie cutter, as it cuts out all the stars or any other desired shape in no time.

2. Now coat one side of the star with glue, press the string onto it and stick another star on it so that the string sticks between the stars.

3. Repeat along the cord until the garland is long enough.

4. If you like, you can stick small glitter stars on the stars for extra Christmas (like this one from Amazon*). Now all you have to do is hang the garland.
