Chinese goths post protest selfies because of insult to appearance

China's goth community, still known as goths, has banded together for a selfie protest in support of a goth woman who was asked by subway workers to remove her "embarrassing makeup" before taking off in early March she was allowed to enter a busy subway. The incident occurred in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou.

In a post on Chinese social media site Weibo, the woman, who has not yet been named, recounted how subway staff stopped her from traveling because of her heavy eye makeup and dark lipstick. Despite not having any prohibited items with her, she was told that she would be refused entry if she did not remove her makeup so as not to “harass” other fellow travelers. The woman also said that the security guard described her makeup as “problematic and really terrible.”

First coral reef discovered in Italy on the Adriatic coast

The first coral reef has been discovered in Italy, researchers say. The underwater ecosystem, considered unique in Europe, is discovered on the Adriatic coast near the popular coastal town of Monopoli, in Puglia. It is the first mesophotic coral reef in the Mediterranean.

“As a Chinese citizen, I hope to use this public platform to challenge the authorities: What laws give you the right to stop me and waste my time?” she wrote in a Weibo post.

Since the woman reported the incident on social media, it has been shared more than 5,000 times. Thousands of other goths posted protest selfies with the hashtag #ASelfieForTheGuangzhouMetro. The solidarity photos also show their dramaGoth-Make-up.

Guangzhou Metro has since apologized and suspended an employee involved, but it hasn't been enough to stop the growing social media backlash. "Guangzhou Metro publicly apologizes to the passenger and netizens and will try to further improve its work and management to provide even better service," China Daily said.
