Fish oil capsules could reduce the risk of heart disease

According to researchers at the University of Norwich, England, supplementing with fish oil capsules offers little to no benefitBenefits against cancer. In fact, it appears to be associated with a slightly increased risk of a specific type of cancer: prostate cancer. However, a scientific group from China and the US found that habitual use of fish oil is associated with a lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease.

Heart-healthy with fish oil capsules

Such preparations containOmega-3 fatty acidsthat are important for health. In most cases we get these through food. In a new study, researchers claim that these could affect inflammation, oxidative stress or the composition of the cell membrane. Omega-3 fatty acids are also found in foods such as nuts, seeds and fatty fish such as salmon or mackerel.

In addition to studying fatty acid intake, researchers examined cancers over a period of at least 1 year. In the studies, they then found out how many people either died or received a cancer diagnosis at the end of their respective studies. After statistical analysis of the data, the team found that there was an increased consumption ofOmega-3 fatty acids low positiveaffects cancer prevention.

According to lead author Lee Hooper, if 1,000 people took omega-3 supplements for 4 years, three additional people would develop prostate cancer.

“In general, as individuals, we are interested in staying healthy,” she explained. “Whether we are affected by heart disease, vascular disease or cancer is not the key, it is about preventing both. However, due to the small benefits, it may be worth taking fish oil capsules.”
