Among the highlights of the year is the launch of the Hyundai Grandeur 2022 car model. This is afully electric versionthe vintage sedan from the 1980s. While the car shares the same boxy shape as the original variant, this one now also features pixel-style LED headlights and taillights. The brand's designers have also given the interior a luxurious makeover.
Old becomes new again – Hyundai Grandeur as an electric car in retro style
Apparently what's old is new at Hyundai. The Pony model experienced a renaissance at the beginning of this year with a unique concept. Now the car manufacturer is doing the same for the Grandeur model. The first generation sedan returns from the series as a stunning retro car. An official premiere took place earlier this month, with the gorgeous flagship stars appearing in South Korea. The pixel LED light motif from the Pony Concept and the Ioniq 5 has been carried over to the Hyundai Grandeur. It's not just on the headlights and taillights, but also on the side indicators. The small squares were embedded into the sides of the front bumper as well as the shiny side caps containing the rearview cameras. Despite the modernization, it is still a faithful interpretation of the original sedan that was launched in 1986 as the Mitsubishi Debonair.
Even the wheel design is based on the classic sedan, but with a large shield-like cover. This mimics the aerodynamic wheels that are becoming increasingly popular on electric cars to increase efficiency. The Hyundai Grandeur Heritage Series electric concept has retained the quarter glass of its inspiration source and the overall boxy body shape in an excellent mix of old and new. While the exterior is a subtle evolution of the 1986 model, the cabin has been revamped with an ultra-widescreen that dominates the dashboard. Mind you, these aren't two displays connected together, but rather a one-piece screen that covers most of the dashboard. The steering wheel imitates the design of the first Hyundai Grandeur, but with modern controls on the sides and a built-in display in the lower spoke.
