Artificial intelligence: The EU Commission continues its work on the ethics guidelines

Artificial intelligence can not only change entire business processes, but also help to solve the major problems of the planet - from climate change to global health problems. However, there are major ethical problems that have to be cleared out for the first time. Since AI is becoming increasingly popular, Europe will take a big step forward. Based on the recommendations of an expert group, the European Commission has defined a kind of checklist with seven conditions for a trustworthy AI.

The high-ranking group of experts from the European Commission for Artificial Intelligence (HLAG) publishes its “Ethics guidelines for trustworthy AI” on Monday, April 8. Access Now, Anec and Beuc, all members of the expert group, support these guidelines, but emphasize that they can only be a first step. TheEuropean UnionHas the responsibility to ensure that basic and consumer rights are observed and the people bring advantages.

The European Commission pursues a three -stage approach: it defines the most important requirements for a trustworthy AI, starts a pilot phase to a large extent, in which the interest groups receive feedback, and participates in the development of an international consensus for AI with humans.

So -called artificial intelligence can be useful for a variety of sectors such as healthcare, energy consumption, vehicle security, agriculture, climate change and financial risk management. AI can also help recognize fraud and cybersecurity threats, and law enforcement authorities can combat crime more efficiently. However, AI also brings new challenges for the future of work and raises legal and ethical questions.

The new guidelines are committed to transparency, fairness and accountability for AI algorithms. The outstanding goal of the guidelines is a humane "trustworthy AI", which pays attention to fundamental rights, is technically robust and reliable. The 40-page ethics manual of the experts is likely to fuel the debate about the correct way of dealing with AI.
