When the HPV vaccination was introduced as an option worldwide about ten years ago, there was heated debate. The question arose as to whether the vaccine is really effective. Many people were skeptical about the vaccination at the time, especially because there were no studies at the time that could clearly confirm its effectiveness. Now researcher Suzanne Garland, who works at the Women's Hospital in Australia, has published a report. Her team conducted a comprehensive study and was able to clearly demonstrate the positive effects of vaccination as a preventive measure against uterine cancer. Uterine cancer cases have apparently declined significantly in recent years.
Study proves: The HPV vaccination is effective
Since the HPV vaccine was introduced in more than 130 countries, most haveHPV casesdecreased by 70% to 90%. Almost exclusively girls between the ages of nine and fourteen were vaccinated. The vaccine has proven to be particularly effective in children and adolescents. The vaccinated young people then contributed to improving herd immunity.
Mélanie Drolet, a scientist at Drolet University in Canada, has also come to similar conclusions. She evaluated more than 65 individual studies carried out over the years by various researchers in highly developed countries. The Canadian has come to the conclusion that the number of women infected with HPV 16 and HPV 18 has decreased significantly. Especially among young women between the ages of 20 and 24, some of whom were vaccinated as girls, the infection rate fell by more than 80%.
Could this vaccine eliminate uterine cancer in the future?
More than 150 HP viruses are already known. Many of them are transmitted through skin contact. 30 types of HPV are also transmitted through genital contact, several of which are considered high-risk types.
If things continue like this, the next generation will most likely not be theresuffer from uterine canceror the cases will be very rare. To ensure that no woman has to suffer from this dangerous disease, enough girls must also be vaccinated so that herd immunity is created. Only then would it be possible to permanently eliminate the disease.
