Could increased consumption of caffeinated coffee reduce the risk of uterine cancer and have a preventative effect?

Researchers conducted a meta-analysis of relevant studies suggesting a link between coffee consumption and uterine cancer. The results show that ahigher coffee consumptionmay be associated with a lower risk of uterine cancer. This is a type of cancer that begins in the lining of the uterus. Additionally, caffeinated coffee may provide better protection than decaffeinated coffee drinks in such cases.

How coffee might affect the risk of uterine cancer

The analysis appears in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Research. The research included 24 studies on coffee consumption with 9,833 new cases of uterine cancer. These occurred in 699,234 people. People in the highest category of coffee consumption had a 29% lower relative risk of developing endometrial cancer. This was compared to those in the lowest category. In addition, the present research highlights several mechanisms associated with the potential anticancer effects of coffee. As mentioned above, researchers analyzed a total of 24 studies from 12 control and 12 cohort studies on coffee consumption with 9,833 new cases of endometrial cancer. In their meta-analysis, the scientists included 699,234 test subjects.

Through additional analysis and comparison of subgroup data, the study authors were able to determine a stronger inverse association for caffeinated coffee consumption with a higher body mass index. However, they also took other risk factors into account. This was done by the research team comparing non-smokers, ever-smokers and those who have never used hormone replacement therapy. Consumption of filtered or brewed coffee failed to show any significant difference between the various research findings. According to the scientists, further research with large sample sizes is needed to provide more information about the benefits of drinking coffee on cancer risk. In previous studies, the authorsthis studyhave already found that drinking coffee could significantly reduce the risk of prostate cancer in men.
