In our series about hose rooms, today we come to our children's little kingdom. Regardless of whether they are babies, toddlers, school children or teenagers, we want to make our children as comfortable as possible. At the same time, functionality should not be lost, because a small work area - whether for painting or for homework - is also a must despite the lack of space.
With the right choice of furniture, distribution and use of space, you can get a lot out of even an elongated room. Sometimes you just need to think outside the box or, literally, think higher and not make major compromises to create a tubular nursery.
The right furniture when furnishing elongated rooms
Sometimes it may be that you cannot accommodate all the usual children's or teenager's room furniture. Maybe there just isn't enough space for a closet and a chest of drawers needs to fill that role instead. In any case, you should know the dimensions of the room and those of the future pieces of furniture in order to be able to plan the distribution correctly.
Self-drawn sketches or floor plans at the right scale are very useful, but online planners also prove to be very practical and are usually easy to use.
Choose functional models for a tubular children's room
Of course, optics play a big role. After all, you should ultimately like the entire facility. However, there are a few things you should consider to save space:
- Sliding doors for the wardrobe, as double doors take up space.
- Loft beds are not only cool, but also practical. This means that the bed does not take up valuable floor space where a cupboard, desk or other space can instead be found.
- Custom-made furniture can be adapted almost perfectly to the dimensions of the room and is preferable to ready-made furniture if and when possible.
- Multifunctional pieces of furniture and/or loft beds can be the perfect solution when space is limited. Especially for children's rooms, there are great models consisting of a loft bed, cupboard and desk in one, which might also work well for you.

The distribution has a strong impact on the atmosphere
Before you can choose the furniture, you should also consider some rules for its distribution. This may depend on what size furniture you should limit yourself to. When there is a lack of space, all points go hand in hand.
- In general, it is an advantage if you place the more massive, large pieces, which are also the centerpieces of a bedroom (bed, chest of drawers, desk), at the front of the hose room.
- On the one hand, this location means they don't get in the way.
- On the other hand, they visually shorten the length of the room so that it no longer appears so tuberous.
- You can use the long walls for equally long pieces of furniture, such as the wardrobe. Depending on which piece of furniture you chose for the front, you logically arrange the others on these long walls as well.
- Be sure to take advantage of the height of the walls. Add storage space options such as wall cupboards or shelves. Built-in wardrobes that extend from floor to ceiling can also be practical.

Paint and decorate a tube-shaped children's room cleverly!
Some people don't even realize how big an impact decoration can have on a room. A tubular children's room or teenager's room can also benefit from them. There are some rules that you should adhere to in order to visually reduce the length of the room:
- Eye-catching decorative items are best placed at the front of the room, i.e. on the furthest short wall. These can be not only chic floor lamps, but also murals (we remind you to make good use of the walls). Are and purpose is not just the decorative effect. Because the eye is focused on such striking elements, the room also appears shorter.
- The trick also works with an accent wall in a bold but light color.
- For small and narrow rooms, the general rule is that light tones should be used and dark or very strong ones should be avoided or at least used sparingly and only as accents.
- Be careful when choosing a carpet: it should correspond to the lines and not be lost under the furniture. A model with an elongated shape that adapts to the exposed sides of the furniture is optimal. Or to put it another way: Furniture should not stand on the edges of the carpet. Instead, the sides of the rug should be exposed and visible, otherwise the arrangement will appear overwhelming.
- Carpets can be used to visually separate different areas in the room (sleeping, working, playing). This subdivision loosens up the elongated shape.
- Reflective surfaces are a plus. If a cabinet is on one long side, you can also attach the mirror there or choose a mirror cabinet from the outset. The reflecting light and the reflection of the room make the room appear brighter, friendlier and, above all, more spacious.
- You can get the mirror effect not only with mirrors, but also with similar surfaces, such aswhite high glossfor example.
