Originally, the Germanic tribes used masks and disguises to drive away evil spirits in February. The custom was later adopted by Christians, but served a different purpose. Back then, people celebrated the beginning of Lent with Carnival. Even today, crazy meetings are taking place in many German cities. The carnival is great fun, especially for families. With funny costumes, children and parents are guaranteed to be in a good mood during carnival. If you want to give free rein to your creativity, you can make the carnival costumes yourself. Make carnival costumes yourself: Make your own confetti blouse
Young and old dress up for carnival. It doesn't necessarily have to be an expensive costume. With a little imagination, even strict office clothing can be relaxed. Forthe first craft projectyou need a plain-colored blouse (white is best, optionally you can choose a soft pastel shade such as sky blue or pink). This is how the blouse is decorated: Use the ice cream stick as a template and cut out 10 - 15 “sugar sprinkles” from the colored paper. Sew the pieces of paper loosely onto the blouse around the neckline. Optionally, you can cut out several details from the colored paper and decorate the entire blouse with them. Or just conjure up funny motifs from the paper confetti. Then inflate the balloon, cut a stem out of red paper and stick it onto the balloon. Complete the outfit with heart glasses.
Make a sugar sprinkle cone
The next oneIdea for a carnival costumeis well suited for both children and adults. The sugar sprinkle bag pictured above can be made in no time, looks fun and is extremely light. Particularly practical if you or the little ones have to wear the outfit for several hours. You need the following materials:
Colorful drinking straws
colored paper
Transparent plastic garment bag

Body-hugging dress in a strong color
Foam board at least 8 cm thick

This is how you make the colorful carnival costume step by step: First cut openings for the arms in the garment bag and then fill them with the drinking straws. Cut out different shapes such as hearts, stars, circles from colored paper and then glue them to the inside of the garment bag. Allow to dry and close the garment bag. Complete! The biggest advantage of this costume is that you can easily put it on and take it off at any time. To make the ensemble look even more cheerful, you can wear a pink wig and make a hat out of foam. Simply cut a circle out of the foam board with a craft knife. Attach the circle to the head with twine (see photo above).
Fun costume idea for couples: pool with confetti and temporary worker
Adults can also have fun during carnival. If you are invited to a party and need an unusual costume, then you will definitely like our next suggestion. Especially because the pool with confetti is also suitable as a decoration. You need the following materials for the project:

2 rings made of plastic
Blue watercolor

This is how the costume is put together: First cut a rectangle out of the white cardboard and then spray it with the color spray and let it dry. Cut out two pieces of rope and attach them to the cardboard with the hot glue gun (see photo above). Shorten the balloons and inflate them. Paint the plastic rings with blue watercolor and allow to dry. Then very carefully first glue the two rings together and then attach the balloons with the hot glue gun. Allow to dry.
Optional: You can decorate a headband with three small balloons. This completes your outfit. After the big performance, you can use the pool as decoration and also hide drinks there for the guests. The craft idea is tooideal for children's birthday parties.
Sugar Sprinkles Dress for Preschool Girls
Children love colorful clothes. Especially at Carnival, you can let your imagination run wild and surprise the little princess with a cheerful dress. A “sugar sprinkle dress” looks particularly sweet. For the craft project you will need a cotton dress in a solid color, scissors, an inkjet printer and transfer paper. With the iron-on film, numerous images and motifs can be transferred to textiles (cotton or linen). The color of the fabric also plays a crucial role in the final result. There are two versions of transfer paper available on the market: one for dark and one for light textiles. Simply first select a template in PDF format or create it yourself, then print it on a sheet of iron-on foil. Then place the transfer paper on the dress with the pattern facing down and iron it on. You can then wash the dress according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually you have to wash it inside out at 30 to 40 degrees.
Decorate accessories with colorful motifs
Transfer paper can be used to decorate more than just clothing. You can also spice up accessories, shoes, hats, etc. in no time. And if you prefer painting, you have the option of drawing the motifs with fabric paint. In this case you need the so-called textile markers. They are ideal for washable drawing on various textiles (except polyester, where the color smudges). They dry quickly and can then be fixed with an iron. They can then be washed at 40 degrees. The children can of course help with this. In contrast to transfer paper, you can also use the fabric pens for other craft projects. For example, pillowcases, fabric bags or T-shirts can be painted with it.
Decorate sneakers with sugar sprinkle patterns
A cool idea for a quick carnival costume for girls: Combine the blouse from the first instructions with a tutu skirt and sneakers. Here are DIY instructions for sneakers with adorably cute sugar sprinkle patterns. You need:

First print the template on the transfer paper, then place the foil with the motif facing down on the sneakers and fix it with the iron. Our tip: Cut the transfer paper sheet into smaller pieces. This allows you to apply the patterns to the shoes more quickly.
Sugar sprinkles – make jewelry
No outfit is complete without the right jewelry. We have already shown you numerous ideas on how you can make earrings, pendants and rings from different materials. But did you know that hot glue can also be used for this purpose?
For the next project you will need:

Hot glue
Jump rings
Stud earrings – blanks

This is how the earrings are made: First fill the silicone mold halfway with sugar sprinkles. In the meantime, connect the hot glue gun and select a higher temperature for thin glue. Wait a few minutes for it to heat up. Then fill the silicone mold with the melted hot glue. As soon as the sugar sprinkles are completely covered with the hot glue, carefully tap the silicone mold on the table. This is how you make the air bubbles burst. Set the mold aside for 10 minutes.
As soon as the hot glue hardens after 10 minutes, carefully remove the jewelry from the silicone mold. Then glue a stud blank to the back of the earring. Open three jump rings with jewelry pliers and poke holes in two hot glue parts with a needle. Connect the two pieces of jewelry with the jump rings. Complete! Our tip: You can make different designs with beads or confetti. Let your imagination run wild.
Although the hot glue gun is extremely easy to use, there is always a risk of injury when handling the hot glue. Therefore, caution is particularly important here. Never leave the device unattended. Children under 10 should not have access to hot glue. The little ones can help choose the decorations.
You can also make other jewelry such as rings, necklaces or even bracelets with pendants using hot glue and confetti or sugar sprinkles. Buy a ring band with a round plate. Round, oval and even teardrop shapes can be attached to it. The more confetti or sugar sprinkles you add to the silicone mold, the more intense the colors will be. The less confetti, glitter or sugar sprinkles you add, the more transparent and subtle the design will appear.
Make party hats
Even party hats can be decorated with sugar sprinkle motifs. You can wear these as an accessory to a clown costume, for example. For your next craft project you will need the following materials:

And this is how the party hats are made: First make a paper cone. Cut out a triangle measuring 15 cm x 15 cm x 20 cm from a sheet of colored paper and roll two of the ends towards the middle. Glue the loose ends together. Cut two strips 6 cm wide and 20 cm long from the fabric and then fold them 3-4 cm apart. The fold depth should be approx. 0.5 cm. Fix the folds additionally with thread and then iron the fabric. Then glue the textile strips onto the party hats (one strip per hat. Glue the zigzag decorative ribbon to the top to hide the seam). Paint the top part of the paper cone with watercolor. Paint lots of little dots on the party hats. You can then use the hot glue gun to glue the fabric flowers and rhinestones in place. You can also use the party hats created in this way after the carnival. You can distribute these among the guests at a child's birthday party. Or you can fill the paper cones with candy and pack them as gift bags. Let the children help with the crafts, they will definitely be excited about the opportunity.
Crazy party outfits
With the ensemble pictured above you are guaranteed to make a splash at any party. We have already shown you how you can decorate a white blouse or white T-shirt with colored paper. But you can also use washi tape, felt or even bandages. You can first paint the wound plasters with watercolor and then stick them onto the blouse. And the old pumps will shine in new splendor with a little glue and sugar sprinkles. You can also wear a headband as a headdress. You have already made a crazy outfit for carnival. A tutu skirt or a voluminous skirt with pleats goes perfectly with this.

In the USA, people also dress up in funny outfits for Halloween. So it's not uncommon to see donuts, ballerinas, clowns, etc. wandering through the city on All Saints' Eve.
