One of the most popular times, especially for children, is just around the corner. What is meant is carnival, which brings with it a good mood. So it's time to make the necessary preparations. A particularly important element is the costume, which should be both original and funny. If you would like to make your child happy this year with a homemade children's carnival costume, our two ideas with instructions might be helpful. Your little ones are guaranteed to enjoy them too.
ThisKinderCarnival costume is particularly practical if you decided at the last moment to design the carnival costume yourself and don't have much time left. You can use the templates below to print out the individual “feather” elements and the mask. The feathers are sewn on again, but can also be glued on.
You need:
– a dark brown shirt (preferably long-sleeved, because it is still quite cold at carnival)
– Scraps of fabric in natural earth tones for the feathers
– Needle and thread, or textile glue
– Cardboard box
– Carpet knife
– Adhesive tape
– Children's sunglasses for the children's carnival costume accessory
Instructions
The first thing you need to do is cut out the feathers. For this purpose, as already mentioned, use the template below. In total you will probably need between 50 and 60 pieces. Then sew or glue these onto the shirt. Start at the bottom so that the pieces of fabric overlap. This is how you work your way forward until you reach the top.
Then cut out the template for the mask. The easiest way to cut out the holes for the eyes is with a utility knife. You can use tape to stick the mask onto sunglasses. Of course, your child can also wear the mask without glasses. For this purpose, a rubber band must be attached so that the mask stays in place. And then they're done. Get matching pants or tights in an earth tone.

The bat as a carnival costume is made according to the same principle as the owl costume. You will again need a long-sleeved t-shirt, as well as felt for the wings and cardboard for the mask. Brown, black or dark gray are suitable colors for these things.
Here's how it's done:
The first thing you need to do is measure the distance from the armpit to the end of the sleeves and to the bottom of the shirt (hip area). This will give you the necessary length for the wings. Accordingly, cut out the two wings from the felt. Note that bat wings have two additional tips that you will need to add as well. Sew corset boning into these areas. The wings can then be sewn onto the sleeves and then onto the torso area. Finally, cut out the mask, which you can stick back onto sunglasses and give the carnival costume the finishing touch.

Choose a slightly larger green T-shirt. Cut the sleeves and the bottom hem into jagged shapes with scissors. The cleavage is also slightly changed. There is a slot added there. Spikes also belong in pants. Finally add a belt and a sword or bow. Of course you also need a hat. You can sew these out of felt or simply buy them ready-made. The feather should not be missing!
butterfly
The basis is again the T-shirt. Think in advance what color you want the butterfly and its wings to be and choose the color of the shirt accordingly. In principle, you can choose any shape for the wings, which you then cut out of cardboard (preferably lighter). Then add any patterns you like and paint them with bright colors. Sew or glue the wings to the back of the shirt. Since a butterfly has antennae, these should not be forgotten. The quickest way to make these is to use black plush wire that you attach to a headband.
Below you will find some inspiration for the patterns and colors of the butterfly wings, which you can use and implement when designing the children's carnival costume.
Pineapple carnival costume
A really cool and easy idea to implement is to dress up your little child as a fruit or vegetable. You can quickly and easily conjure up a costume and you shouldn't even use a sewing machine. Cut out a circular cape from matching fabric or from a large t-shirt. (for example a diagram in the picture series) Make openings for the hands and neckline in the appropriate places as shown. The cutest thing in the whole outfit is the funny hat. You can easily make it out of cardboard, which keeps the whole thing in shape, and a bit of cotton wool to make it look voluminous. Have fun!
