One of our favorite things to do before Easter is marble the eggs. The technique is super simple and even complete beginners can do it. We have attached a step-by-step guide so that you can get a better idea.
In a few bowls or cups, mix warm water, 2 tablespoons vinegar, 1 tablespoon oil, and egg coloring (one per bowl). Since oil and water cannot mix, the olive oil remains floating on the surface. By the way, you can also use other plant-based cooking oil and achieve the same effect. Sunflowers or rapeseed oil also work well.
Then break the floating oil bubble with a fork. Dip the eggs in the desired color. The oil will prevent the paint from penetrating the sounds. The longer they stay in the shell, the more intense the color becomes. This way you can achieve different effects such as ombre eggs. Try out different variations and see which one you like best.
Remove the eggs from the bowl with a fork. Place them on a paper towel and wipe away the excess oil or buff them with an old but clean cotton cloth. Allow them to dry and cool, then refrigerate.
For an interesting two-tone effect, dip the eggs in a second color. If they don't get the same blotchy look as the first time, add more tablespoons of olive oil to the dye solution. Be sure to keep the marbled eggs cold and consume them within the next two weeks.
Alternatively, you can blow out the eggs first and then marble them with nail polish. This is how you make a long-lasting decoration that you can use for years to come. Follow the picture instructions below to create magical and colorful designs. Caution: Only dye blown eggs. The nail polish can penetrate through cracks in the shells and poison the inside.
