The Santa Claus boot is a great gift for St. Nicholas Day and then a wonderful decoration for the entire Advent season. Today we'll show you a few simple ideas that you can implement with children when doing crafts. The little ones can not only experiment with different materials, but also learn something new. With a homemade version, the anticipation of Christmas is much greater!
Make your own Santa boots out of old clothes
Children from 7-8 years old, especially girls, already show an interest in sewing. This next project is a great way to teach your daughter some simple stitches. The pre-stitch is the simplest of all stitches and is worked from right to left. For this Santa stockingan old cotton shirtused, but a plaid shirt made from thick flannel fabrics would work even better.
Materials needed
Old shirt
Scissors
Marker
Hot glue gun
Pearls
Nadel
thread
Felt (in different colors)
That's how it works
1. Draw the Santa stocking on the shirt with a marker and then cut it out.
2. Use the first stocking as a template for the second one and cut it out too.
3. Cut out 3 triangles of different sizes from felt. These are the fir trees.
4. Then cut out rectangles for the trunks from brown felt.
5. Glue the cut-out figures onto the stocking.
6. Then decorate the Christmas trees with red beads.
7. Cut a strip (approx. 10 - 12 cm) from the shirt, fold it in two and glue it to the inside of the stocking. This would be the hanging loop.
8. Now sew the two stocking parts together with a simple stitch. Leave some distance from the edge.
9. Then cut off the edges using the marking.
Upcycle old jeans as craft material
The upcycling trend continues! Now you can explain the differences between the substances to your child. For example, denim is slightly thicker but more elastic than cotton. This Santa boot will also be heavier than the others.

- Cut out a second stocking for the back of Santa's boot.
- Cut out a small Christmas tree from green felt and glue it so that it shows out of the bag.
- Cut a long strip out of leftover fabric. This is made into a loop for hanging and glued between the two layers.
- Now sew the two stocking pieces together.
- Red beads along the edges of the trouser pocket add the icing on the cake.
Red felt Santa boots with a snowman motif
Once children have taken their first steps in sewing, they can learn to embroider. When embroidering, the fabric is decorated with decorative stitches, while when sewing, two pieces of fabric are usually connected together. In this project, children can embroider not only the snowman's arms, but also individual snowflakes as a background.
