1. Wildlower and herbs prefer a nutrient -poor, permeable soil. High concentration on nitrogen can inhibit their growth and instead promote the growth of weeds. However, since you regularly fertilize the lawn, the floor should be emaciated gradually. This step is very important for the end result.

2. Furthermore, the good drainage is absolute must. Fortunately, most grasses also prefer a permeable floor. Most hobby gardeners therefore regularly work in the ground.

3. An essential advantage of the flower meadow is that most plants prefer dry soil. The annoying watering of the lawn can be completely omitted. You have to let the floor dry for the first time.

4. The wild flowers feel best in the full sun. Land with the south and west orientation offer the best prerequisites for a flower meadow.

A fundamental difference between lawn and flower meadow is the function of the garden area.

Lawns offer a green, stable carpet for the house residents. There you can play, sit and lie down.

A flower meadow, on the other hand, is not step -resistant. All the more- since it offers accommodation for important birds and animal species, you should let the plants grow as undisturbed as possible. This is a piece of nature in your own garden that can only be observed. If you need access to other areas, you should create several garden paths. The wildflower meadow is a great variant for small plots.

They are perfectly adapted to the location. Sowing can vary greatly depending on the region, since most wild plants are only available in their original areas. Most species also tolerate a cut and can be mowed several times a year. This variant is ideal for large gardens and can replace the lawn and flower bed completely.

A flower meadow does not arise overnight. It takes several months for you to completely replace the old lawn. The procedure is actually super easy:

1. Choose the seeds carefully. The terms are often confused wildflower meadows and bees. A flower meadow seeds contains only a few one-year or two-year-old plants and many several years of flowers. All types are widespread in the region and have a medium to large flow of flowers. The mix also contains grasses and herbs.

2. Next, the lawn is weakened so that the domestic plants can germinate and grow. For this purpose, all fertilizer and water gifts are set first. No compost, no natural fertilizers - the soil should emaciate. Spring is the right time for it because it rains regularly in the period in March to May. The rainwater rinses the nutrients.

3. From April you mow the lawn as briefly as possible and scarify the floor.

4. Then sand is incorporated into the freshly scared floor. In the next four weeks you will leave the lawn. The lawn should be briefly mowed again at the end of April.

5. After that, you can apply the seed. The lawn should be mowed regularly in the coming weeks. The wild plants are delayed, ie the lawn must be kept short during the seed period.

6. In late spring and summer, weeds should be removed. At the end of September you can mow the wildflower meadow for the first time. For this purpose, the meadow is divided and mowed into sections.

Similar to the lawn area is surrounded by flowers, a wildflower base is created around the flower meadow. It is a species-rich combination of one, two- and multi-year, medium-high perennials that create the transition between the natural zone and the other areas in the garden. The wildflower hem has a width of 70 cm to 150 cm. It is created as follows:

  • Remove weeds
  • Grab the upper layer of the floor (about 15 cm deep) and fill the hole with mineral mixture and sand.
  • Put the sprouted perennials or even young plants in the ground.
  • Spread the flower seeds evenly and fill the gaps around the perennials.
  • The wildflower hem is mowed once a year, in spring. The clippings are removed immediately after mowing.
  • Otherwise, weeds regularly apply to care. Do not fertilize the floor and do not water - it should be as lean as possible so that the perennials can develop well. Rüsäen is not necessary.
