Pictures of these pests on hydrangeas are probably unnecessary because pretty much everyone has seen them before. The question is more like how to get rid of these really stubborn pests.

Aphids look like this:

  • green, black or reddish brown
  • a few millimeters in size
  • some have wings
  • produce so-called honeydew, which makes the leaves sticky
  • prefer young leaves, shoots and buds, where they accumulate more

What causes the aphid on the leaves:

  • the leaves of the hydrangea curl
  • Leaves curl up
  • possibly yellow spots
  • Honeydew can lead to fungal disease

Effective control agents are:

  • If the infestation is light, you can remove aphids from the hydrangea by spraying it with a jet of water
  • spray with soapy water (soft soap or dishwashing liquid, for example)
  • Decoction of nettles, onions, oregano and other plants
  • use natural enemies, e.g. B. Ladybugs and larvae

A few sprays that you can make yourself with plantscan be found here.
