Many Allium species form breeding bulbs, which are usually located immediately next to the mother bulb. After flowering and the leaves die back, you can dig up the bulbs and separate the offshoots. Either plant them directly in their final location or grow them outside in pots with granular soil.
Some Allium species (Allium roseum, A. sphaerocephalon and A. vineale) form bulbs in the inflorescence. These brood buds can be carefully removed and separated. The bulbils can be planted in moist, well-drained soil about 2.5 cm apart and covered with a 1 cm layer of soil. It takes several years before they begin to bloom.
