The grill is an outdoor element that should not be missing. After all, what could be nicer than summer parties in the garden with delicious grilled food and together with family and friends? So if you are also thinking about a grill, you can either buy a ready-made one or make your own individual model. If you would like to build a garden grill yourself, we will come to your aid and offer you a quick construction plan in several simple steps, which you can find below. If you are not sure about some things despite the instructions, you can also ask for help at the hardware store.
In order to build this garden barbecue yourself, you will need the following materials: reinforcement, 200 bricks measuring 20 cm x 10 cm x 5.7 cm, cement, sand, water, wooden panels measuring 5.1 cm x 25.4 cm and wooden stakes with dimensions 5.1 cm x 10 cm grill and accessories.
You can find the materials you need here on Amazon.de:

– Cement (30 kg for €9.90)
Build your own garden grill – idea with storage space
Our tip - buy the grill and accessories in advance and measure them carefully - then compare the dimensions of the grill with the attached construction plan so that you are sure that the grill really fits and you don't expect any unpleasant surprises. You can equip the finished grill with a table on the side that serves as a shelf or youbuild from the same materialsa more stable storage surface, as shown in the diagram above.
Grill with oven compartment
Before you start, find out what the weather will be like in the next few days - if it rains, the structure will not be able to dry well. The weather should therefore be as nice and dry as possible. Also carefully consider the future location of the grill. Once this is in place, changing it is rather difficult. The grill should not be in the way and there should be no combustible materials in front of it. Finally, sparks fly after the fire is lit.
Build your own small grill
Once you have found the space, you also have to think about the desired size. Higher models are particularly comfortable, of course, as you can stand in front of them normally and don't have to bend down. If necessary, to save space, you can also choose a smaller model like the one above, which is of course particularly quick to build. The size also depends on the size of your family and the usual number of guests. If you are grilling larger quantities, a larger grill with a larger grilling surface is preferable.
Build your own garden grill – step 1 – the concrete floor
Before you build the garden grill yourself, you need a foundation on which it can stand stably. If you place it on a finished, level terrace, this step may be unnecessary. But it's best to have this checked by an expert. However, if you are designing the foundation, you can make a frame out of wooden boards, which you can fix in the ground with the help of wooden stakes so that it does not slip.
A steel grid is added next. This steel mesh is very important because it ensures that the concrete does not start to crack even in frosty weather and changes in the weather in general. The material can expand and contract easily, meaning it can move freely, which is completely natural for outdoor use.
Next, mix cement with sand and water (1 part x 3 parts x 1 part) to make the concrete. Stir the mixture well until it becomes thick like mashed bananas. It is crucial for the construction that the ground is leveled. To do this, put some concrete in theShape and paintSmooth it out using a straight board and tapping movements. Then add another part of concrete and continue smoothing. Repeat all of this until the entire frame is filled. Allow the concrete to dry for at least 48 hours.
Build your own garden grill – step 2 – lay the bricks
The second step goes without saying. After the floor is finished, all that's left is:to lay bricksand build the grill this way. It is important that the walls of the garden grill are straight. So check this after every new row. If you wish, you can also cover the structure with natural stone at the end. Everything looks just as good if you just cover the foundation. That depends entirely on how you imagine your model to look visually.
Assemble the brick grill
Before you get to the top, consider leaving niches for the grill grate and drip tray in the side walls. Alternatively, you can also brick a few bricks lengthwise for this purpose so that they protrude (you can see such an example below). The size of the grill should also be tailored to the grill grate. After the last niche, build one to three more rows of bricks. But don't make it too high so that the smoke can escape easily without turning the side walls black over time.
Optionally decorate with natural stone
The finish is then formed by any stone slabs that you glue onto the brick builders. This is the best way to seal the joints between the bricks and you get a flat surface that you can use as a temporary shelf for barbecue cutlery, plates or other things. It is best to use the same stones as for the foundation.
The end result – brick garden grill
And that's it, you're done building your own garden grill. It is very practical that you also have storage space for firewood or charcoal, right under the drip tray.
