Ironing is definitely not for everyone. But as unpleasant as it may be for some, sooner or later it is necessary. But what if you don't have an iron at hand? “Ironing without an iron“It’s impossible,” you might be saying to yourself. But you are wrong! There are great tricks that you can use to get your laundry nice and smooth and wrinkle-free even without the appliance. We have put together some helpful tips in this article and some of them make straightening even quicker and easier than using the device. Find out how here!
How can you iron without an iron?
Diedifferent techniquesOf course, they also vary in effectiveness. They don't work equally well with every material. For this reason, you simply have to try out for yourself the best way to iron without an iron. But once you get the hang of it, you won't even think about using the device anymore.
Steam in the shower
The shower is perhaps the most well-known trick. The smaller the bathroom is, the better. The room should be able to fill with water vapor as quickly as possible in order to save time and of course water. So you use steam. The only thing you then need is a clothes hanger with which you can hang the item of clothing in the shower.
steam
Hang the wrinkled garment in the shower. Choose a place that is close to the shower head but where clothes cannot get wet. Now let hot water run. Thanks to the water vapor and good old gravity, the wrinkles disappear on their own without you having to help. You can combine this trick with your daily shower.
Use a hair dryer
For the next life hack you will need a simple hair dryer. Put the wrinkled garment on and spray it with a spray bottle. However, make sure that the clothing does not become too damp.
Treat laundry with hot air
Now it's the turn of the hairdryer. With its help, you can dry the garment again and the wrinkles will disappear. Blow dry both the outside and the inside. You get the hot air inside by blowing it in through the sleeves, the neckline or from below. The combination of hot air and humidity helps.
A special spray
There is a great tool available to buy that also makes the device unnecessary. The so-called “textile wrinkle smoothers” can be found in drugstores and are sprayed onto clothing that is still damp. So if you have a piece of clothing that you know creases a lot, you can prevent this by ironing it with such a spray, so to speak, without an iron.
Iron laundry
The damp item of clothing is hung on a hanger. After you have sprayed one, you can shape it a little with your hands to guarantee the best result. With this method you simply let the garment dry as usual and on the hanger.
Hot water in the pot
A technique that works on the principle of the iron, i.e. with heat, is the variant with a pot. This is a good device replacement that you can use if your device breaks unexpectedly or you don't have one on hand. Fill a pot with water and bring it to the boil. Place the garment on the ironing board. You can also treat a shirt wonderfully this way.
Ironing tips
Using the pot that has become hot from the water, smooth the garment by sliding it over it. It is important that the pot is also nice and clean. Be careful because you are working with hot water! Also, don't fill the pot with too much water. The movements could cause it to spill out of the pot and burn your hands!
Use a dryer
Not everyone has a dryer in their house. But if you are one of the lucky ones, you can also use it to remove wrinkles from clothing. Put the clothes in the dryer. In addition, you will need a damp object. This can be ice cubes, but also a damp sock, a damp cloth or similar. Now let the dryer do the work.
Get clothes smooth without much effort
A working time of 15 minutes is sufficient for the dryer for this purpose. Then remove the clothes from the dryer and hang them with hangers. This will prevent it from creasing again. You also need to remove the clothes from the dryer straight away, otherwise they will still crumple in the drum.
Iron laundry with a straightener without an iron
You may also be able to get the dry laundry straight with a hair straightener. In this way you can, for example, iron a T-shirt. But if you want to iron a shirt, the straightener can also come in handy, as its handy size makes it possible to straighten even difficult parts, such as the collar.
Tips for straighteners and curling irons
Because you can clamp the textiles in the straightener, you have the opportunity to use the heat directly. The straightener should be cleaned beforehand. Any residue from hair care products could dirty your clothing. The iron must also not be held in one place for too long so that the material does not burn. Alternatively, you can also use a curling iron to smooth your clothes.
A damp towel
Place the wrinkled garment on a smooth, flat surface. This can be an ironing board, the floor or a table. Then place a damp towel on top. Then run your hands over the towel to further smooth out the clothing underneath. Afterwards, you can remove the towel and let the clothes dry.
Smoothing under heavy objects
To speed up the drying process, you can also use a hairdryer. The trick with the towel is also suitable if you use heavy items to iron without an iron. For example, place clothing under a mattress. However, the result may not be as good as if you straighten the clothes with your hands.
Without ironing board
Now that you've gotten some tips, you might be looking for one tooAlternative for the ironing board. In principle, any flat surface is suitable for this, be it a dining table, the worktop in the kitchen, a desk or even the floor. However, since you will be working with hot steam and an iron or, for example, the variant with a pot and water, protection must be found for the surface.
Protect the base
Otherwise, the heat could damage the table top, parquet or laminate. You can also use an everyday household item for this purpose, namely an ordinary towel. To iron without an iron, simply place one or more towels between the surface (table or floor) and the item of clothing to be ironed. The towels serve as insulation. Special ironing cloths are also offered that can be used for protection and are more space-saving than ironing boards.
