Walnut wood interior of a modern studio among the trees

In today's article we present to you the “Writer's Studio” in New York, which was designed in 2007 by the architects from Cooper Joseph Studio. The “Writer's Studio” covers 49 square meters and is a place where you can work, read or listen to music. On one side of the “Writer's Studio” you can admire the wide fields and a pond through the glass front, while on the other side you can gaze into deep forests. At first glance, the mini house impresses with the use of walnut wood inside. The furnishings are elegant and simple and appear harmonious thanks to the wooden material used.

Walnut wood inside

The overall impression of the modern studio in nature is deceptively simple. The façade consists of various openings that have been specially tailored to the light source and allow for maximum light supply. The warm walnut wood insideminimalist details, the corner glazing and the transparency along the “box” make up its simplicity. In the cold winter transformsthe big fireplaceinto the visual center of the studio. The box is actually a small, straight-lined individual room in the middle of the forest.

Walnut wood insideis the material that is used here in a variety of ways. The design of the furniture, a desk and side table, as well as two black leather armchairs, give the straight-lined and simple room a certain dynamism. The pantry and sliding doors are made of walnut, the floor is made of highly polished walnut, as well as some wall paneling and the sink in the bathroom. Viewed from the outside, the studio fascinates with its dark and straight facade. The facade of the “Box” consists of narrow, flat, horizontal boards made of black cedar.

Minimalist and stylish

When it comes to energy and sustainability, they opted for passive heating and cooling and used locally available materials, such as firewood on their own property. The leaves of the deciduous trees serve as natural sun protection in summer, while the black facade absorbs the sunlight and the fireplace minimizes fuel consumption.

The walls inside are made of white walnut slats. The window seat, kitchen and bookshelves were made entirely of walnut. The polished floor in the studio, which shines in a warm color due to the penetrating sunlight, provides balance and more shine in the otherwise simple interior. Next to the fireplace canWood storedbecome. A hidden door on the north facade of the house allows the fire to be kept burning without having to lug firewood through the front door.

Since the room is decorated in a minimalist style, it was very important that the material from which the few pieces of furniture were made also matched the rest of the interior. Due to its warmth, strength and special structure, the dining table and desk were also made of walnut wood.In the bathroom, a rain shower and the glass wall create the feeling of being outdoors. Slats cover the walls in the bathroom and the sink is also made of walnut.
