Shrimp saganaki original recipe
With our shrimp saganaki original recipe we bring a piece of Greece to the table! Usually the popular Greek appetizer is served as meze together with other small mezedes such as tzatziki or Greek pasta salad and tastes irresistibly delicious. And with some crusty white bread you can even enjoy this delicious dish as a main meal.
Ingredients for 6 servings
- 1.5kg large prawns, with the shell on
- 300 grams of ripe, juicy tomatoes - alternatively you can also use diced canned tomatoes
- 1 root Paprika
- 2 Spitzpaprika
- 1 red onion
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 60 ml Ouzo or Metaxa
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill or parsley
- 300 grams of feta cheese
- olive oil
- Salt and pepper
preparation
- Chop tomatoes, onions, peppers and pointed peppers into small pieces.
- Place tomatoes in a sieve and let stand for 10 minutes.
- Clean and peel shrimp.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the onions and garlic to the pan and cook, stirring occasionally, for 1-2 minutes.
- Add the tomatoes and peppers and bring to the boil, covered.
- Simmer for about 5-7 minutes until the sauce has thickened slightly.
- Meanwhile, heat some olive oil in a large pot and fry the shrimp for 1-2 minutes per side.
- Add the ouzo to the pot and then pour the tomato sauce over it.
- Season with spices and salt and pepper and sprinkle feta cheese on top.
- Cover and cook for another 2 minutes until the feta has melted. Alternatively, you can bake the shrimp saganaki in the oven for 10 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve with some pita bread.
