For many of us, the turn of the year is a time for a little review and a new beginning. We hope that our wishes and dreams will come true and our lives will change for the better. In order to finally get rid of existing bad luck and start the new year well, it is a tradition that we give each other small lucky charms on New Year's Eve. Whether lucky pigs, shamrocks, horseshoes or chimney sweeps - you can see them everywhere in the shops on New Year's Eve. However, homemade gifts have sentimental meaning for us and that's exactly what today's article is about! So that you can wish your loved ones a “Happy New Year” in a unique way, we will show you how you can easily bake lucky charms! But enough talk – read on and get to the oven!
Baking lucky charms for New Year's Eve: recipe for lucky pigs
Forget the usual stuff from the store - baking good luck charms for New Year's Eve is without a doubt oneparticularly nice gesturethat your loved ones will never forget. Depending on whether you want to bake the lucky charms savory or sweet, you can use either a sweet shortcrust pastry or a savory quiche dough. But since we have a sweet tooth, we'll tell you our best recipe for sweet lucky pigs.
Ingredients for 20-25 pieces:
- 300 grams of wheat flour
- 200 grams of butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 1 No
- 80 grams of sugar
Frosting:
- 30 grams of powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon water or lemon juice
- Small chocolate pearls
preparation
- Put the wheat flour, butter, sugar and egg in a large bowl and knead with your hands to form a smooth dough.
- Form the dough into a ball, wrap it in cling film and put it in the fridge for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and line a large baking tray with baking paper.
- Form half of the dough into a 4 cm thick roll and divide the rest again and form two slightly thinner but equally long rolls.
- Cut 25 pieces out of all the rolls and spread the larger slices on the baking tray.
- Use a toothpick to make two holes in the slices of the narrow rolls so that they look like trunks.
- Place the pork noses on the large slices below the middle and press them lightly.
- Form small ears from the other roll and press them onto the top edge.
- Bake the lucky pigs for 15 minutes until golden brown and allow to cool completely.
- Mix the icing ingredients in a bowl until smooth and spread over the cookies. You can add some pink food coloring if you like.
- Place chocolate beads on top for your eyes and you're done - it's that easy to bake lucky charms for New Year's Eve!
Bake lucky charm horseshoes from puff pastry

If you're short on time, you can bake lucky charms for New Year's Eve out of puff pastry! With a creamy filling and nice and crunchy - these lucky charm horseshoes are ideal for conveying your New Year's wishes in a delicious way!
Ingredients for 12-14 pieces:
- 1 roll of puff pastry
- 1 No
- Nut Nougat Cream
preparation
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and line a large baking tray with baking paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a floured work surface and cut out 30 horseshoes using a biscuit cutter.
- Spread half of it on the baking tray.
- Pour the nut nougat cream into a piping bag and pipe a stripe onto the cookies.
- Place the remaining cookies on top and press the ends firmly.
- Then brush with the egg and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Let it cool down and your homemade lucky charms are ready to give away!
Bake lucky charms from yeast dough
The possibilities for baking good luck charms for New Year's Eve are truly endless, but these yeast dough lucky pigs are hands down our absolute favorite! We tried the recipe at the weekend and everything was eaten the same day.
Ingredients for 18-20 pieces:
- 550 grams of wheat flour
- 250 ml milk
- 80 grams of sugar
- 50 Gramm Butter
- 1 No
- 1 cube of fresh yeast or 1 pack of dry yeast
- A pinch of salt
- 36 raisins or chocolate drops
preparation
- Place wheat flour in a large bowl, make a well in the middle and crumble in the yeast. Sprinkle with a little sugar.
- Heat 120 ml of milk to lukewarm temperature and add half of it to the bowl.
- Stir lightly with a fork and let the mixture rise, covered, in a warm place for 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile, heat the remaining milk, sugar and butter in a small saucepan until the butter has melted. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
- Add the milk mixture, egg and salt to the yeast mixture and knead into a smooth dough using the dough hook of the mixer for 5 minutes.
- Cover and let the dough rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees and line a baking tray with baking paper.
- Roll out the dough on a floured work surface to a thickness of approximately 5 mm and cut out 18 circles using a round cutter. Place on the baking sheet.
- Roll out the dough again and use a smaller round cutter to cut out another 18 circles and poke 2 small holes in each.
- Roll out the remaining dough lengthwise and cut out 36 small triangles.
- Whisk the egg yolk with a little milk and brush the large circles with it.
- Press a small circle onto the bottom half and press the triangles at the top left and right.
- Then attach raisins or chocolate drops for the eyes and press them lightly.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and allow to cool completely.
- And your lucky charms made from yeast dough are ready!
Low carb lucky pigs
Someone in your circle of friends is on a diet right now? In this case, too, you could bake lucky charms for him! Filled with cheese and ham and only 2 grams of net carbs per piece – these low-carb lucky pigs are the perfect healthy treat.
Ingredients for 8-10 pieces:
- 200 grams of almond flour
- 100 grams butter, melted
- 120ml water
- 120 ml milk
- 3 eggs + 1 egg for brushing
- 2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
- A pinch of salt
Filling:
- 50 grams of cheddar cheese, grated
- 50 grams of ham, chopped small
- 1/2 onion, finely diced
- 40 Gram Fresh cream
- Salt
- Some butter
preparation
- Heat some butter in a pan over medium heat and fry the onions for 2-3 minutes.
- Mix the ham, cheddar and crème fraîche well in a bowl and fold in the onions. Put in the fridge.
- To make the dough, whisk together milk, water, eggs, butter and garlic cloves in a large bowl.
- Add almond flour and salt and knead into a smooth dough. Wrap the dough in cling film and place in the fridge for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 170 degrees and line a baking tray with baking paper.
- Remove some of the dough for the eyes, mouth and brows and color with food coloring as desired.
- Roll out the remaining dough to a thickness of 4 mm and cut out circles (12 cm in diameter).
- Spread the filling on half of the circles, place the remaining circles on top and press the edge lightly.
- Brush with the egg and form eyes, mouth and eyebrows from the remaining dough.
- Decorate circles with it and bake the low carb lucky charms for 35-40 minutes until golden brown.
