It warms us on cold winter days and tastes like heaven - mulled wine is always enjoyable. The winter drink also boosts the Christmas spirit at home. Here are the most important tips you should know if you want to heat the mulled wine in the kettle.

  • The most important thing when heating mulled wine is that it never bubbles or boils - otherwise the alcohol will evaporate and we don't want that. Even if you want to heat it in a pot, you should make sure that the mulled wine only gets hot slowly.
  • To avoid possible poisoning, it is best to use a kettle without a spiral. Older models often have an exposed heating coil, which can sometimes cause metal to come loose.
  • If you can change the temperature of your kettle manually, you should set it so that it does not reach 100 degrees. Ideally, the temperature should be around 70 degrees. This will ensure that the mulled wine does not boil and the alcohol does not evaporate.
  • Heating mulled wine in a kettle can also work in older models under certain circumstances. In this case, you should definitely stand next to it while it is heating and turn off the kettle before the mulled wine boils. Unfortunately, there is no general answer to how long this will take - it will undoubtedly require some sensitivity.

Clean the device thoroughly

Have you successfully heated the mulled wine in the kettle? Great! To ensure that your tea doesn't taste like wine next time, you should clean the device thoroughly after use. Of course, if you do like the aftertaste, you could skip this step. Otherwise, we would recommend you heat a few rounds of plain water in it. The kettle can also be cleaned with vinegar or citric acid. Simply add 1-2 tablespoons and add a cup of water. Stir gently and bring to the boil. Then leave the mixture to work for another 15-20 minutes and then rinse well with lukewarm water.

The mulled wine cooker is a great alternative

Don't want to risk heating the mulled wine in the kettle? Or do you love treating yourself to a cup in the evening? Then we have a great alternative for you! You've probably noticed the large mulled wine kettles and pots at the Christmas market. Fortunately, these can now also be found in smaller versions and are therefore ideal for personal use. To ensure that the alcohol remains and the mulled wine does not boil, all mulled wine cookers have overheating protection. In addition, they are usually made of stainless steel, which means they do not absorb any flavors and are very easy to clean. Such a purchase would of course be a bit excessive if you only want to treat yourself to a mulled wine at home every now and then. But if you have a large family or a large Christmas party at home, a mulled wine cooker could be definitely worth it.
