Yoga mats are an essentialAccessory for yoga enthusiastsand ensure that you can carry out all exercises comfortably on the floor. But it's annoying to roll them up and stuff them into your sports bag or tie them up with a ribbon and transport them. The inventors of the YoYo Mat have addressed this annoying problem and have found a better solution for the otherwise relatively unwieldy surface: a self-rolling yoga mat!
YoYo Mat: The world's first self-rolling fitness and yoga mats
The inventor, Aaron Thornton, wanted to design a yoga mat that rolled up and was easy to transport without extra straps. The fitness and yoga enthusiast got inspiration from how snap bracelets work. The bands are initially straight and wrap around the arm when it hits the arm. After many trials and failures, he designed his first prototype of the self-rolling yoga mat, which has already been registered as a utility model in the USA.
When in use, the mat stays flat on the floor
Inspired by a self-wrapping bracelet, Aaron Thornton incorporated a band into the mat that rolls up with a click. This band means that the soft surface remains completely flat on the floor during use.
This is how the self-rolling yoga mat works:
- The rolled-up fitness mat is thrown away from the body so that the lying surface is at the top.
- Then the mat is fixed with a click so that it stays flat on the floor.
- As soon as the yoga class is finished, you can simply turn the mat and it will roll itself up again.
But the self-rolling yoga mat can do even more! The top is non-slip so it remains grippy even when you sweat. The underside structure is decorated with a special motif so that the mat sticks to the floor.
The development phase took almost a year! Aaron, along with his co-founder Dino May and his old friend, renowned fashion photographer Yu Tsai, worked together to create something unique and innovative. Functionality and chic were combined in the design.
