Packing your suitcase – instructions and tips for more order and space
After you have planned so well, it would of course be a shame to throw everything into the suitcase in a completely chaotic manner and not be able to fit everything in at the end. With the right system, everything will definitely find its place and also at the destinationcrease-free from the suitcasecome.
Use every free area
Suitcase space can be quite limiting, so you'll need to get creative and use everything you have available. Have you thought about using your shoes as storage space too? Many people like to store socks there, but more fragile things such as sunglasses or charging cables, perfume bottles, etc. can also be stored there. Also use the spaces between the stacks of clothes to store narrower items (books, slippers), for example.
Sort the piles of clothes by category
- Long pants
- Short pants and skirts/dresses
- Long sleeve tops
- T-Shirts und Tops
- underwear
This is just one example of how you might categorize your clothing items. If you want to pack your suitcase correctly, the following methods are available:
- There are special bags, so-calledPacking Cubes, which are usually offered as a set in different sizes and are very practical for space-saving organization if you want to pack suitcases efficiently and without creasing. This way, when you unpack, you always know which clothes are where and you don't have to rummage through your suitcase and get everything mixed up. The clothes are also compressed well in these bags, which is of course an advantage if you want to pack your suitcase to save space.
- Roll or fold? Experts praise various methods for storing clothes when traveling, but what is the more efficient option? The clearest and most space-savingis definitely the curling version where you can play with the directions (kind of like Tetris). However, you can also combine both: stack one item and use the spaces between the stacks of clothes for rolled-up items.
Pack your suitcase step by step
Has the day to pack arrived? How do I pack a suitcase correctly for a plane ride or car/bus ride?
- Pack hygiene products and make-up in wash bags.
- Store shoes in separate bags or pockets (to avoid dirtying clothes) after filling them with smaller items if necessary.
- Arrange the shoes along the edges of the suitcase. Books also go there best.
- Roll up the softer items of clothing. These include, for example, T-shirts and, depending on the material, skirts and (short) trousers.
- Leave out clothes that you will need first without unpacking your suitcase.
- Distribute them neatly on the bottom of the suitcase. You can also clamp any objects in between (e.g. books).
- Now take the heavier clothes. These include, for example, jeans, sweaters and coats that you can now fold compactly.
- Distribute these folded clothes evenly over the rolls from before.
- If you want to pack loose, fragile items, now is the time. In the next step, these are once again well insulated and protected.
- You can now also pack wash bags and make-up bags in your holiday suitcase. Alternatively, they can also be stuck between the rolls of clothes if there is nothing fragile that needs to be protected by clothing.
- Fold any remaining shorter items of clothing and spread them over the rest in a final or second-to-last layer until you have everything tucked away.
- Finally come the pieces already mentioned, which you will need first.
