Greater suspension travel, a larger tank, longer trips and new driving modes improve BMW's latest adventure companion - theBMW R1200GS Adventure 2014.
The BMW R1200GS Adventure 2014 - with steering damper
The new oneBMW R1200GS Adventure 2014has the same water- and air-cooled, vertical two-cylinder boxer engine with 1170 cm³ displacement as the regular GS. The wet clutch is driven by a six-speed gearbox. In order to improve its steerability, especially on off-road terrain, the engine flywheel was made almost 1 kg heavier, which, together with the vibration damper located between the gearbox housing and the drive axle, should make the drive run more smoothly. TheBMW R1200GS Adventure 2014based on the tubular frame of the standard GS. The motorcycle has 2 cm more suspension travel. The new 30 liter tank is 10 liters larger than before. The large adventure model is also equipped with a steering damper and an improved geometry of the swing arm is intended to improve steerability. The ABS and ASC (Automatic Stability Control) of theBMW R1200GS Adventure 2014are included as standard. The two new setting variants “Rain” and “Road” are also interesting. In the rain setting, the engine responds more smoothly, helping the rider maintain control of the motorcycle in slippery conditions. In combination with this, there is improved stability control so that you can intervene more quickly. When ordering the semi-active suspension technology ESA, the damping of the wheel suspension is softened. In road driving, the engine response is quicker and both the ABS and ASC are set for conditions with better grip.
BMW R1200GS Adventure 2014 – performance and dynamics
Like the standard GS, it isBMW R1200GS Adventure 2014Optionally available with three driving modes to adapt to the given circumstances. They are called “Dynamic”, “Enduro” and “Enduro Pro” and are activated via a coding plug. The sportiest setting is Dynamic. The engine is set for direct throttle response and the ASC is restricted so that the driver can drift the rear slightly. The ABS is configured for road traffic and if the Dynamic ESA is available as an option, the damping becomes firmer. The enduro mode of theBMW R1200GS Adventure 2014is for off-road use and provides a smooth engine response for better control, while ASC intervention is more restrained, allowing the driver to freely drift the rear wheel at will. The ABS is set for loose surfaces and the Dynamic ESA suspension setting, if available, becomes softer. The third setting, the Enduro Pro, is tailored to off-road and was designed primarily for knobby tires. The engine response is more spontaneous and the rear wheel ABS is overridden to make it easier for the rider to control the direction of the motorcycle. The Dynamic ESA suspension tuning returns to its operating settings.
