Would you like to know how to make a large bedroom comfortable? In this regard, we have compiled some tips and designs for you to make your task easier. In the photos and floor plans we also examine the design of the bedroom 20 sqm and more. Just read on to discover practical examples and information about how to successfully optimize your available space.

Interior design ideas for a large bedroom

To accommodate everything you need for sleeping and evening leisure, 14 to 18 square meters are usually enough. However, if the size allows you,to make optimal use of the space, you can get more out of it. A large room can be advantageous in more than just one case. If there is an acute lack of space for all residents of the apartment, there are several options available. In all other cases, the answer is yes, increase the space without hesitation. The spacious rooms have many advantages. Firstly, you get better sleep in it, while the feeling of sleepiness and lethargy disappears. Secondly, the larger area allows for more planning options.

The ideal size is 24 square meters. In such a room and in different areas of the room you can then make such a large bedroom cozy and comfortable according to your needs. For this purpose, you can simply look at the layout example above. On the plan you can see a variant of a spacious, comfortable bedroom. Next to theThere is a sleeping and dressing areaa bathroom and a walk-in closet. The central room is appropriately large and spacious, although the main part is not necessarily needed for such large bedroom closets or chests of drawers. So you don't necessarily have to fill it with furniture and you can just install a TV stand, for example.

Split large bedroom

If necessary, you can divide the bedroom space to create areas with different functions, such as a workplace. Such zones can be hidden behind a partition, for example. Separation from the main part of the bedroom allows you to change clothes in a visually hidden space. This means you can remove any clothes you currently use at home from the visible area of the bedroom and improve the aesthetics.

Dressing room with anteroom

This solution allows you to store and try on all your clothes, shoes and accessories without leaving the bedroom. Don't walk from the hallway to the closet two or three times before going out. It's also a great border for outsiders. To get into the master bedroom, those who have to go through the closet, which can actually only happen by chance.

For example, if the room is large but too long, a major design mistake and more can happen. The main reason for this is that many people attach their furniture to the walls to save space. The following floor plans show that such mistakes can also limit comfort when you divide a large bedroom into two separate rooms.

In the photo above you can see an arrangement of furniture suitable for approximately 30 square meters. This looks more like a corridor with a bed at the end.

If you divide a bedroom of 20 square meters or larger into two zones, you immediately secure a rest and sleeping area, as well as a place for a dressing table or a wardrobe. A wall between the sleeping bed and the table can also visually divide the room without appearing too elongated.

In this case, a large, elongated bedroom is divided into two parts using a cloakroom anteroom. Such a storage system also makes the room more comfortable. In addition, in the resulting niche you can set up a place for a dressing table or a work area.

Bathroom in the bedroom

It is always better to have your own private shower room rather than having to share it with guests or other residents. Unfortunately, you rarely get this in a configuration with the bedroom. However, you can do something about it if you have a large bedroom. However, a bathroom is usually only possible in two cases:

  • According to the approved layout, wet areas can be adjacent to your bedroom and a bathroom can only be created in this way.
  • The management company issues the necessary permission to install a bathroom in the bedroom.

There is another interesting point. Recently, residential complexes with the status of apartments have become popular. Legally they are non-residential buildings and therefore a joint venture, for example, has no force against them. This means you can build a kitchen and bathroom anywhere in the apartment. However, we strongly recommend that you first clarify the problem of restructuring with the management company, even if there are no formal legal obstacles.

As a rule, it is not customary to install the toilet in the living room or kitchen. The exception can be a suitable room in the bedroom, especially when it comes to houses. This is accessible from the combined bathroom. At the same time, it is usually the case that the apartment should have another toilet with a separate entrance from the hallway.

Ideas for 20 square meters or more

So how can you go about it if your bedroom is 20 square meters? This is a bit much for a regular living room, but you cannot put a bathroom with a separate dressing room in such an area. But you can still make it a spacious and comfortable bedroom, as you will see in the plan below.

In this case, the 22 sqm includes everything you need for such a space, as well as a hidden dressing room and a work station. The room layout is therefore at an optimal level, which means you don't have to miss out on a modern design and style that suits your taste.

Large bedroom divide into more than two rooms

Suppose you live with a wife and a preschool-age son and are expecting a second child. You have an area where you can either have two large rooms of 20 m² each or threeset up small bedroomscan. What can you choose in this case? In your case the first option is preferable.

Most likely, in the first few years you will share the room with the newborn, and it is better if the room is spacious. During this time, the older child grows up and usually associates with the younger brother or sister. However, if you have a wife, a child and a mother with you, it is better to arrange three bedrooms - a separate one for each age group.

Five more tips for setting up

  • Never place furniture around a large room. Don't leave the middle empty. The emptiness of the bedroom will put pressure on the owner - he will feel uncomfortable when falling asleep.
  • Do not make open dressing rooms from the bedroom (we mean closets along the walls, as in the photo). Otherwise, your room will be littered with laundry in the near future. A clothes dryer and ironing board directly opposite the bed also appear immediately. The dressing room should be separated from the main bedroom room by doors or a partition that performs a zoning function.
  • Don't try to experiment with something you don't know. Many trends in contemporary design just don't necessarily suit you. A bathtub in the room or a glass partition between the bathroom and the bed looks very impressive in the interior. But ask yourself: can you use these in full view of your other half? Maybe it's better to give up the idea.
  • When creating a design project larger than 20 m², pay attention to artistic styles. The large bedroom should be spacious and bright. The abundance of decor and furniture will negate the spaciousness and visually make the room smaller.
  • When making repairs in the bedroom of at least 20 m², do not lower the ceilings to illuminate multi-level niches. A 2.6 meter ceiling in a 25 square meter bedroom will put pressure on you. There is a special formula for calculating the optimal ceiling height: h> ½ a or h> 2/3 b and h <¾ a or h

Final Thoughts

In the photo: The bedroom is more than 20 square meters and looks very attractive in a modern style. However, the option of bathing directly in the bedroom is not suitable for every family. The rest is up to you.

You can do zoning, for example, setting up the sleeping area near a window and a night area next to a reading corner at the entrance or vice versa. Thus, the reader will not have to disturb the sleeping person. The large bedroom is also a great platform for carrying out all designs, even the most daring ones. The most important thing is that you don't go to extremes and don't focus on standard solutions.
