Building pallet furniture – the special feature of furniture made from Euro pallets
WhyFurniture made from Euro palletsBuild yourself when you can often buy industrially manufactured furniture for the same price? Some people have probably already asked themselves this question. It may be much quicker for some people to go to the big four letters in order to choose their furniture and cobble it together at home according to the assembly instructions. But here too, measurements have to be taken and it is not uncommon for compromises to be made because the pieces of furniture that can be purchased do not correspond to the ideal dimensions of the intended space.
The furniture here offers far more potential for using niches down to the last centimeter. You can saw the pallets to fit precisely and build your own individual pieces. We think that real unique items that can't just be bought make your own home a personal affair and have your own story to tell, right?
Apart from the precise fit of the Euro pallets, the pieces of furniture are incredibly stable and robust, can be assembled and dismantled again and again with screws and can withstand any move. Provided you want your Euro pallet furniture to last a lifetime, because for you, just as it is for us, it is just a short-lived trend.
Which palettes are suitable for this?
It is of course no secret that Euro pallets are not exactly known for their purity. Unfortunately, there is often a lack of information here, as not all Euro pallets are suitable for this. It is important to find out in advance where the pallets come from and what was transported on the Euro pallets. Because many a pallet has seen more of the world than the greatest globetrotters. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to understand which goods have ultimately been transported on the Euro pallet, as they are in constant exchange and change hands regularly.
If you decide on used Euro pallets, we can only recommend that you pay attention to the stamp. Since 2010, the pallets have been exclusively heat treated and in this sensefree of chemicals. Caution! This only affects the handling of the Euro pallet and, as I said, has nothing to do with the goods being transported. In any case, the pallets should be sanded thoroughly. Sari and Christian have also written a detailed guide in which they show exactly what is important when buying.
If you don't have the right tools for surface treatment or you simply don't have the time to sand the Euro pallets for large furniture, fortunately you have the option of buying new pallets. The new pallets are manufactured specifically for construction and are available both sanded and unground. Of course, the price differs slightly. Of course, buying ground Euro pallets has the advantage that you can be 100 percent sure that all pallets are completely splinter-free and that you can put them to use straight away. Sanded pallets are particularly advantageous if you are building children's furniture from Euro pallets.
Simply build your own children's bed from Euro pallets
And that brings us to the first piece of furniture. Since it has now become a great passion of Sari and Christian to constantly design new furniture from Euro pallets, they obviously wanted to build a children's bed for their daughter from Euro pallets. It was primarily important to them that they create plenty of storage space for their books and cuddly toys.
There is certainly nothing nicer for a child than to be surrounded by all of their favorite cuddly toys while sleeping to make them feel even more secure. But what does it actually do?a bed made of Euro palletsto a real children's bed, apart from the numerous stuffed animals that have their permanent place there?
The most important aspect in a bed for children is probably the fall protection. As is well known, children are not only active during the day. They twist and turn, sometimes mysteriously ending up with their heads on the foot, until the game continues in the opposite direction. For this reason, they simply connected the integrated storage compartments and the fall protection with each other, giving the child's bed made of Euro pallets a practical function. Of course, a small part was left out on the entry side so that she can get in and out independently. To make it easier for her to get into the pallet bed, they built her a small stool out of Euro pallets. It was very easy to put together from the leftover pieces.
They then built two more drawers out of chipboard below the child's bed and embedded them in the child's bed, which they painted with a child-friendly chalk paint. In order to give the child's bed a personal finishing touch, Sari and Christian wrote their daughter's name on the front of the fall protection with a burning rod to match the look of the Euro pallet. They cut the mattress accordingly from a cold foam mattress that they had left over. You can also order them online and have them delivered to your desired dimensions.
If you would like to test it beforehand, just drive by the nearest upholstery shop. So that their daughter doesn't hurt herself on the open shelves and fall protection at night, they sewed her a bed snake to protect her. Complete! The result was a cute children's bed made of Euro pallets, which her daughter immediately accepted and took great joy in sorting in and out of her cuddly toys.

Build your own pallet sofa – it’s that easy
Now we have talked so much about the cozy sofa made of Euro pallets and have discovered that it can be extremely stable and super comfortable at the same time. Great, then we have already clarified the most important facts and can now move on to the next important topic. The instructions for building it yourself. How can you build your own sofa out of Euro pallets without having to have completed carpentry training? The question is easy to answer. Roll up your sleeves and let's go!
As mentioned, pallets are heat-treated, which means that they cannot get moldy and therefore our pallet sofa is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Many people build a simple lounge out of Euro pallets for the garden by placing the pallets next to each other as desired, stacking them on top of each other and then just adding pallet padding. Sari and Christian have planned their pallet sofa a little more precisely and have also integrated storage and storage areas.
It's best to first place all the Euro pallets in the shape you want your sofa to look like in terms of structure and size. We find that two pallets for the sofa stacked on top of each other create the optimal seat height. You determine the height of the backrest of your pallet sofa. The backrest was shortened slightly in height for this purpose. The seat depth was also changed. For a cozy pallet lounge, we recommend using the full depth of a pallet. We used a disposable pallet as a side shelf. If you keep the depth of the Euro pallet, you can of course use a normal Euro pallet for this.
For the recessed drawers, Sari and Christian sawed out the free spaces with a jigsaw and built the drawers out of chipboard. You can then easily screw the individual pallets together and if you want, you can give your sofa made of Euro pallets a coat of paint. They used white chalk paint for this. If you build your pallet sofa for outdoor use, simply use a weather-resistant paint. In her DIY video you will also find detailed step-by-step instructions for building your own pallet sofa.
