Youth consecration sayings for a very special day – where does the ritual come from?
The term “Jugendweihe” has existed since 1852. As already mentioned, it is celebrated that the young people are now transitioning into adulthood. The ceremony usually takes place between the ages of 13 and 15 and is in principle the same as Protestant confirmation or Catholic communion, only non-denominational. Particularly in the GDR, youth consecration experienced a kind of boom and became a tradition. That didn’t change even after the fall of communism. And although the celebration is still mainly represented in eastern Germany, it seems to be gradually becoming established in other regions as well. No wonder, because she is really very beautiful!
