Choker necklace is the trend piece par excellence, especially in all possible variations. But often the problem is thatthe chainis often simply too small or not exactly suitable for the neck. The good news – you can create one yourself without any effort. We have collected some ideas and summarized simple instructions. The materials you need can be found in the bead or craft store around the corner. Tools and aids such as superglue, scissors and jewelry pliers are also useful.

Instructions

First, we give a few tips before getting everything you need. If you want a wider choker chain, we recommend choosing a velvet ribbon in black or dark red. You should avoid the black leather straps because they are reminiscent of BDSM culture. It also looks more stylish when the metal hardware and accents coordinate with the rest of the jewelry you're wearing.

Use ring

For the first DIY chain you will need:

  • Approx. 50 cm artificial leather strips in a color of your choice - e.g. brown
  • Superglue
  • Metal ring – diameter 2-3 cm
  • Clamp closure

Make your own choker with a metal ring in the middle

First you have to measure the neck circumference with the tape measure. Cut the leather strap to this length, then cut it in the middle. Then place one half around the metal ring, fold it in by approx. 1-1.5 cm and glue it in place. Do the same with the other half.

DIY chain with clamp clasp

Next, make a test to see whether the leather strap with the metal ring corresponds to the dimensions of the neck; if necessary, shorten the strap. A clamp fastener is then pressed into place at both ends using jewelry pliers.

DIY chain with metal ring – variant II

A similar variant also works with a very thin leather strap. You need about 1 m of leather strap. You first cut it into two, then tie a loop around the metal ring with each piece. Now the simple choker chain is ready and can be attached to the neck.

Make your own narrow choker necklace with a gold accent – instructions

For the second choker, we decided on a very simple version with a gold accent. It is a gold-look curb chain that is lovingly incorporated.

Materials

All you need for this craft project are:

  • 1 m leather strap/leather cord in the color of your choice
  • approx. 4-5 cm curb chain – not too coarse
  • Superglue
  • Scissors and jewelry pliers

Accessory with gold accent

The cord should be pulled through the openings in the curb chain. For this reason, you have to consider in advance how big the curb chain should be so that the cord can be threaded through it.

Slide the gold chain into the middle of the leather cord

Now the curb chain is pushed into the middle of the cord and centered properly. Instead of the curb chain, you can opt for a coin with a hole in boho style or choose another pendant. This choker necklace is already finished and it didn't even take 10 minutes.

DIY chain with metal eyelets on both ends

We recommend attaching metal eyelets to the end of the leather strap or cord. These can either be fixed with superglue or attached with jewelry pliers. This means your choker will look complete and professionally made.

DIY necklace with accents at the ends

The simplest option of all is to take a leather cord and wrap it twice or three times around your neck. If desired, it can be tied as a bow. To accentuate, you can attach details to both ends of the ribbon. Small pendants or beads are ideal for this.

Make your own chic choker necklace with black lace trim – instructions

This chic choker necklace consists mainly of artistic lace trim in black and a velvet ribbon is sewn in the middle. To make this yourself you need:

  • a piece of black lace trim – approx. 30-35 cm long, 3-5 cm wide, depending on the neck circumference
  • a piece of velvet ribbon – 50 cm long or equal to the length of the lace trim and narrower from it
  • The stick part
  • Clamp closure or hooks & eyes

DIY necklace – elegant with black lace trim

First, measure the neck circumference and cut the lace border a little longer than the circumference. The velvet ribbon is sewn onto the middle using a sewing machine. The two ends are then briefly melted with a lighter so that they cannot fray. Then there is the option of closing the choker with a clamp closure or with hooks and eyes. In the second case, you have to pay attention to which side you put the hook on so that it overlaps the eyelets.

A black velvet ribbon

Another idea for a stylish and modern own-brand choker is to simply take a beautiful velvet ribbon, about 1.5-2 cm wide and 1 m long, and attach a clamp fastener to both ends. The ribbon is then tied as a bow at the back of the neck and not at the front of the neck as usual.

Imaginative idea – restyle a narrow belt

As you may have already learned, there are no limits when it comes to choker necklaces. You can experiment a lot with it. Simply take a nice narrow belt, shorten it a bit and wrap it around your neck, or keep it the same length and just double it around. The DIY Chooker is now finished.

The simplest option – simply tie a string as a bow

The narrow cord or leather strap can easily be replaced with a shoelace, as long as it is finely made and not too thick.
