Impressive modern family home in Barcelona

Pleasantly located in the heart of Barcelona's old town, the square where this ultra modern family home is located is typical of the area - particularly narrow but elongated. In fact, the basics include the distance between two streets.

Due to its location, this single-family home represents a significant challenge for the architects and interior designers Ferrolan LAB. The arrangement and shape of the living rooms is determined by the restrictive footprint of the building. Obviously the structural solution to take full advantage of the limited space was to build upwards. The building, therefore, is unusually large in relation to its narrow foundations. With the key structural elements in place, the next focus was on the clever use of light and color to ensure the interior appeared as spacious as possible. The arrangement of rooms needs to be uncluttered and orderly, making the most of every available space. It is important that maximum connections are made between inside and outside in order to create a significant feeling of freedom and openness in the interior.

The modern interior design is based on a combination of white and light neutral colors. The introduction of vibrant and vibrant colors can be seen in select flairs. Bold color is used sparingly in the children's rooms, funky furniture and colorful artwork. These bright hues give the house a desirable feeling of warmth and homeliness. What is noticeable is that in areas outside the rooms, the color palette becomes more cool and neutral, putting an additional emphasis on the fresh look of materials such as glass and steel.

In addition to the color, the formal patterns and texture elements are prominent within this modern interior design. The living spaces are characterized by a rich abundance of creatively juxtaposed materials. Powerful patterns are presented through the thoughtful positioning of linear architectural features. These are combined to add energy and dynamism to the home. The emphasis on horizontal and vertical lines also serves to break up the elongated rooms into cozy and compact zones. An exciting spiral staircase makes a fascinating sculptural statement at the center of the interior. The contrast of this spiral shape creates an instant 'wow' effect within the elegant, modern interior.

The single-family home includes a garage and cinema in the basement. Following this there is a mezzanine, with two rooms connected by a study room. This room opens onto an attractive patio area. The surprise on the first floor is that you first encounter an open courtyard. On one side is the dining room and on the other side – the kitchen. The rooms are connected by a gallery, cleverly planned to become an open terrace when the weather is nice. The bedrooms and bathrooms are in the private space on the second floor, and at the top of the house, on the roof terrace, there is a luxurious swimming pool.

The ingenious layout of the living spaces allows residents to easily transition between indoor and outdoor areas. The vibrant interior design supports the physical characteristics of the house and visually magnifies them.
