The “Butterfly Studio” by Valerie Schweitzer Architects was named winner of the American architecture award 2017. The 33 square meter private office is located in the back garden of a single -family house in Westport, Connecticut, in the USA and offers a quiet and peaceful retreat where you can work concentrated. The design was inspired by the structure of the butterfly wing and convinces with a glass roof, light -flooded interior and a fine mix of materials.
The angled shapes of the “Butterfly Studio”, which protrude from the ground like broken glass or crown lags, are reflected in a futuristic and simple appearance. This combination of old and new materials, glass, wood and steel, supports this idea and lets the viewer puzzle whether the building has been there for centuries or has just fallen from the sky. This concept is further emphasized by the use of contrasting plaster and recycled teak.
For theHave garden officeThe architects opted for an expansive glass roof. It is made of steel and thermally insulated glass and lets the sun rays flood in the room. Observation walls alternate with several narrow, room -high windows and create an open atmosphere. You can watch the changing sky through the glass roof and at the same time enjoy a feeling of privacy.
The polished concrete floor with underfloor heating underneath moves through the whole room and ideally fits the timeless design. The screed floor not only looks good, it is also practical. The work tables are equipped with roles and can be pushed back and forth via the studio until the perfect arrangement is found. Conglays bring style and mood into the studio and set invigorating accents.
