Single-family house with steel frame construction: Sculptural city villa with loft character

We present to you a project from Turkey that redefines the basic principles of modern architecture. A single-family house with a steel frame construction was transformed into a sculptural city villa with a loft character. The result successfully combines opposites: the cool industrial look of the steel construction harmonizes surprisingly well with natural materials such as wood and stone, which are used extensively indoors and outdoors. In addition to the attractive facade design and furnishings, the building also impresses with its functional spatial concept. The sophisticated room layout ensures optimal comfort in the compact living space, so that the residents don't have to do without anything when it comes to equipment. The renovation work was carried out by the talented team at theCATwork. Join us on a virtual tour of the house and see for yourself the creativity of the architects!

Single-family house with steel frame construction is being modernized: the project in details

The single-family house is located in Tuzla, Tepeören. It is located in a residential complex that was built in the 90s. At that time, architects placed more value on a cheap, but at the same time stable and fast construction method than on a stylish appearance and functional interior design. Around 100 city villas with steel frame construction were built at that time. Almost thirty years later, the residential area looks completely different. More and more homeowners have decided to adapt their house to their own needs.

The architects from theCATwork were commissioned with the task of optimizing the available living space. Intensive planning resulted in a project for a modern city villa with a loft character. A high quality of life and living comfort set the tone for the distribution of space. On the first floor there is a spacious living area with dining area, living room, reading corner and kitchen. The high ceilings, the direct connection to the glazed winter garden and the numerous skylights make it appear bright and inviting.

The high-quality furnishings in details

Diemodern kitchen landscapeslooks directly onto the living area, but is separated from the lounge area by a glass wall. Modern kitchen cabinets without handles, the trendy color combination: anthracite gray worktop and dove gray fronts bring industrial flair to the interior.

The dark kitchen contrasts with the bright living room, where the white walls and ceiling discreetly fade into the background. This means that the marble-clad fireplace with terrarium can make its grand entrance. The attractive grain of the natural stone automatically attracts attention and simply won't let go of your eyes. At the same time, it serves as a unique room divider that visually separates the living room from the winter garden and the winter garden from the reading corner.

The living room itself is comfortably furnished: a comfortable day bed with leather cover invites you to relax with a book in your hand. The comfortable, pull-out sofa has enough seating for the whole family. The armchair and stool with padding offer additional seating options for guests. A glass coffee table and a round carpet complete the living program in this zone. The color scheme is deliberately kept natural and simple. Earthy nuances such as brown, ivory or off-white create a homely ambience and relax the eyes.

The dining area for eight people, which is located directly behind the living room, is stylishly designed. The comfortable chairs with velvet upholstery promise the highest level of seating comfort. The extendable wooden table fascinates with a natural, untreated look and pleasant feel. Three glass pendant lights with steel details create a connection between the kitchen and the dining area.

The fireplace in the middle of the room is a real work of art: It combines a terrarium, gas fireplace and bench in a modern design. At the same time, the sparkling flame creates a cozy ambience and spreads pleasant warmth.

The natural stone flooring in the hallway and the solid wood parquet in the living room bring variety to the interior. An eclectic mix of different materials and textures is typical of the industrial style.

The suspended ceiling with built-in lighting conceals installations in the ceiling cavity and, with its minimalist look, fits harmoniously into the overall concept.

Opposite the living area there is another living room where the family can sit down comfortably in the evening and watch TV. A spiral concrete staircase with wooden steps leads to the second floor where the bedrooms, bathrooms and a home office/guest room are located.

Inside, the single-family house with a steel frame construction impresses with generous movement areas and a flowing transition between the individual living areas; outside it presents itself with a modern, minimalist facade. Natural materials such as marble, natural stone and exotic types of wood give the interior a touch of luxury and create a homely ambience. Elegant textiles such as velvet also enhance the furnishings.
